I can’t bring myself to hate Neelix. I liked him when I was a kid. I liked pretty much all of the alien characters. I really hated Tom Paris and Kes (god what an awful character idea - barely counts as an alien since she’s just “bangable child”).

Over the last 2 weeks, I’ve had kids sick with strep that then passed it to me (because they’re assholes). So I figured that I’d watch that Star Trek: Discovery show that I’d been meaning to check out. I was raised on TOS and TMP eras. Welp, I’m out. Nobody just shuts the gently caress up and does what they need to do. There are times (especially at the end of the second Officer- “We only have 6 minutes before X goes Y and everyone everywhere Z! Ideas?!?” Jr Officer- *rambles quick idea about as good as a paper-mache submarine* Michael- “No.” Officer/Jr Officer- (in unison) “BUUUUHT WHHHHYYYY?” Michael- *gives 5 minute oration in Starfleet ethics, crafting* Relevant Officer- “Yes! But if we need to stop Z from X and Y, you’ll need to account for (reverse polarity stand-in)” Everyone- nods sagely Officer- “You know your jobs, we have @ a minute left! HIT IT!...” Everyone- *Turns to go* Officer- *picks most crucial crew member to success* “One more thing...” *7 minute backstory that explains why everything sucks, could’ve mentioned this at ANY time before everything is threatened to Z up* (Cut to Jump drive doctor/mechanic/farmer/cyborg giving 5min nearly pointless tirade where you can’t look at his eyes because you’re not sure if that’s CGI or unfortunate genetics... BUT THEY ARE ALWAYS THERE. (20min later) 5...4...3... *Michael saves everyone* Michael- (still acting as bad as in TWD, but now it makes sense because Vulcan school) “And that’s what I’d call a sticky situation!” The effects were spot on tho. Writing and *some* of the casting blows. I give it 2 Andromeda’s out of 1 Firefly's (2 out of possible 10,000,000 points).
