One thing about Mindustry, it's pay what you want on itch.io, and itch.io takes a much smaller cut than steam, so it would be better to download / buy it from them. Here's the link. https://anuke.itch.io/mindustry Always support your local game-devs, especially the ones who are giving their game away for free.

Lair of the Clockwork God is out and easily the funniest game I've played in a long time. You play as Ben and Dan who finally return from the ancient adventure games Ben There, Dan That and Time Gentlemen, Please. Since all those years ago Dan has decided to become the new darling of indie platformers like Meat Boy. Ben on the other hand still wants to be and old school point & clicker. What this means is that you switch between the two morons to either solve puzzles with your inventory and brain or jump around on various stuff like a mad bastard. This works well since the puzzles are clever and the action frantic with good controls. Also, it's once again really funny and well written. I can't recommend this enough if you're a fan of both genres. For some reason it also comes with a free dating sim about the first time our heroes met at school and it's awful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC7X3Ur7l-Q https://store.steampowered.com/app/1060600/Lair_of_the_Clockwork_God/

This game upfront has a "Store" similar to the typical microtransaction fare you get in ubisoft games, but its "not open yet". I think its probably some kind of joke that'll make sense later on in the game so I won't worry about it. Its pretty good, It does a lot to blend the platformy stuff with the object puzzle stuff so they work together properly. I havent got too far into it yet but theres a lot of intrigue already.

Though it will become relevant during a playthrough, but of course you are not spending any money there. The platforming felt a bit too imprecise and sluggish related to other platformers, though.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/912570/BEAUTIFUL_DESOLATION/ A 2d isometric adventure game from the people who made dark sci fi horror Stasis. It's not quite Disco Elysium, with the quality level swinging between polished and budget jank but it's one of these rare examples of the combat free* isometric adventure genre at a low price *or at least, not the gear and character stats kind of combat of Fallout/Baldurs Gate Carecat fucked around with this message at 02:54 on Mar 1, 2020 |

Its definately got a Fallout era aesthetic about it. I don't know if it's possible to avoid conflict entirely, but that'd be neat.

I don't think I've seen a game live up to its name better, its genuinely beautiful with surprisingly good and frequent CGI for an indie; but entire map areas can be completely empty, with a single NPC to talk to or one thing to interact with. Problem is I've literally had to comb every area, because pick ups are invisible to the naked eye and the icon for them only appears when your character is near them. I understand they did this so you had to stare at the art for longer, but man is that annoying.

There was a similar game released just recently, but held more in the 2D sprite style of classic Fallout games. It had something to do with big meat monsters that want to be more human, or something of that nature. Does anyone remember what it was called?

No, I'm afraid that's not the one. It was really very reminiscent of the early Fallout titles, it even had that dialogue window. I remember a screenshot involving a big blobby Cthulhu thing poking out of what looked like a bunker entrance or a mine and a female PC talking to it. Sorry I can't really give any more detail than that.

The only recent-ish games that are really similar to Fallout are: whoops apparently this released Dec 2018. But they're still updating it, and recently they updated the engine to Unity 2019.2. Encased - Kickstared game, now in Early-Access. Neither are sprite looking, but the first one is almost clone-like. Just want to say that I got Urtuk after the chatter in this thread and it is absolutey phenomenal. It’s a 2D Xcom, the art is amazing and I can’t believe it was done by one person. Even though it’s in early access on steam, it seems finished to me- you can play the whole game without crashes or bugs, thought they balancing is still up in the air. But If you play the beta branch with the code on the steam beta forums, most of the balancing concerns seemed to have been worked out. This game is great, ya’ll! Maybe it’s a lot like battle brothers, but I could never get into BB and bounced of it a few times- maybe the new DLC make it worth trying it out again?

KillHour posted:Wasteland 2? Probably not but it's a good game. Also Krater. Wasteland Remastered released on February 25th. While I do like the new graphics and sound work I still find it incomprehensible. They haven't really done anything with the gameplay or interface so it feels really archaic. I wish they would at least have added a few QoL changes and a tutorial, but that would have obviously made the original fans mad as hell. They could have created a secondary mode that's actually user friendly. If you're a fan of the original you'll probably dig this but otherwise I really can't recommend it. https://store.steampowered.com/app/875800/Wasteland_Remastered/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6KF4xc-cd4

Ori and the Will of the Wisps just came out, and from what I've played it seems that as well as fixing the first game's terrible combat, they've also mixed in a bit of Hollow Knight. A pogo hop ability, a mapmaker who moves from zone to zone, estus-style healing that consumes the same resource as damaging attacks, oh and this is literally the charm screen. Really enjoying it so far.
