I love that there was a moment in time where you could make a six figure income just as a techno DJ. Not even being Moby or whatever and putting out albums, just DJing huge raves for like $5,000 a pop twice a month.

This guy was a poster on this website, he probably made several million dollars from this show alone, big time DJ sets aren't any less ridiculous than like stadium rock shows but the media they made about its genesis was extremely funny

I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected to, which surprises me, because--and I know this is heresy--I am really not at all a fan of the movie. But my ex-wife strongly suggested I give it a shot and I'm glad I did.

I still get peeved to this day that Sharon Stone didn’t win an Oscar for her portayal of Ginger Rothstein. Easily one of her best roles. Especially during her third act meltdown.

Back when I first saw this I had no idea about On Cinema, so it was just this amusing, goofy thing. Now it sounds to me like what Shakespeare performing his own work at the globe theatre must have sounded like.

It's funny that you bring that up because Shakespeare coined a bunch of common English phrases, so I hope one day phrases like "American-style water torture" and "you're my greatest and closest friend" become common.

phew, for a minute there i lost myself
I've had it on the watchlist forever but I finally got around to Apocalypse Now Redux tonight. It's been at least 10 years since I've seen the non-Redux version and outside of some (I think) obvious scenes like the French plantation and the Playmates it was tough to recall what was different. Sometimes there was some really awful OST in the movie that stood out that might be specific to Redux but again, can't recall that for sure.

That's still a hell of an effective film, a classic for a good reason. So many iconic scenes and shots. Incredible atmosphere and scale. Brando casts a huge shadow over the film (and is expertly filmed in the shadows once he shows up) - he seems like he plays a much bigger role than he actually does. Martin Sheen's hair is tremendous. I'm sure in the years since there's some "high-schooler's first metaphorical film" criticism about it but it still works so well. A really haunting experience and I can't wait to watch some behind-the-scenes stuff because I'm sure it must have been a total nightmare to film.

As a natural follow up I'm now watching Congo. Tim Curry and Ernie Hudson completely hamming it up (not to mention Joey Pants) is just wonderful.
