Guillermo del Toro wrote a script and was slated to direct a Haunted Mansion film for years as recently as like 2015. At one point Ryan Gosling was going to star. However, this life is cruel and the project is dead. Maybe this will help revive it.

Looked it up and what happened with M Night's version is that it ran into an issue of conflicting rights ownership between people who own the comic and people who own the HBO series. And nobody wanted to play ball.
