most of the anime epics I can't really get into the characters. Dragon Ball is the exception and that only happened because the manga is 1000% better than the animated show. That said, the animated stuff is pretty fun too(like Goku falling off the dragon way and beating the poo poo out of everything because Goku is how I'm trying to be). I tend to veer more towards the mecha and super robot stuff because 1. piloting giant anything is the coolest feeling ever. 2. the metaphors you can use to represent getting into a giant robot and fighting your enemies are super relatable. According to OpenEmu, I've now logged 1 day, 14 hours, 57 minutes in Super Robot Taisen A Portable and I've not even in New Game+

Shard posted:I'm getting really fed up reading comments online about victims of the virus. A staff member of my states governor just died. She was 33. The first comment on Facebook was "stop lying she was immumocompromised stop trying to scare people. " I've been on the internet since about 1993, and Nazis have been a problem from the start, and well before that in the BBS days, but the more popular the platform, the less likely people would be able to get away with it, for a time. You could watch people get banned from AOL for speaking favorably about HItler back in 1994, for gently caress's sake. But here we are, two-and-a-half decades later, and Twitter and Facebook ban queer people and people of color before they ban Nazis. Most people still use "owned" as a term as if it doesn't have its roots in racism, but I was there, playing Quake and Half-Life, where people would call you the N-word and say that "owned" you when they won. And even internet leftists still use it, and I'm never sure if they're doing it on purpose, or if they've just never thought about it or its etymology. I watch people being banned from so many places for being irritating to others by fighting the creeping fascism in ways that aren't deemed civil enough while literal Nazis get the benefit of the doubt, because their freedom of speech is favored more than others'. So here we are in a quarantine, and it's worse than any time in recent memory, as the president of America crosses out "Corona" and writes "Chinese," and just what the actual gently caress?! How is this happening?!

I never really pushed the term "owned" away that hard because it came from hacking, referring to gaining root access, or literally owning another system if only temporarily. Hackers and then script kiddies would always put up greetz to other hackers or script kiddies after making it known that they owned whatever server it was with a defaced website or some file in the db. i used to hang out with and think those kinds of people were cool in the early to mid 90s but there were a lot of horrible slang terms back then so I can't in good conscience say it was not meant to be related to slavery in some way. dang

NienNunb posted:Do they make anime for grown ups? Bunny Drop (or Usagi Drop) is a short 12-ish episode slice of life/coming of age dramedy about a goony guy raising his grandfather's 6 year old illegitimate child after he passes away. It's heartfelt and has relatable, human characters. I really enjoyed it years ago and have been meaning to give it another watchthrough again one day.

Naoki Urasawa's Monster is a fantastic show that's cool and for adults and is emotionally mature and thematically rich and all that. The basic premise is a doctor in Germany saves the life of a young child, who years later shows up as a dangerous serial killer that the doctor then has to track down and apprehend. Lots of cool mysteries and intrigues and character drama ensues. Lots of cool music and imagery, that you can see right in the opening.
