I love the mental image of a cartoon thief with Zorro mask, black/white striped prison garb, and a giant bag of loot over his shoulder trying to open that thing. Maybe he has an iron ball chained to his ankle too. Alright, we just gotta... gently caress. gently caress. Maybe if I... gently caress! CARL, GET THE C4 OUT THE VAN. I DON'T CARE IF THIS HOUSE IS A CRATER. I DON'T WANT TO GET THE LOOT OUT. I WANT WHOEVER OWNS THIS PIECE OF poo poo TO KNOW. THAT THEY CAN GO SHOVE THEIR ENTIRE HEAD UP THEIR rear end! Get the, yeah, the gasoline too. edit: there is no treasure in the safe. the real treasure is the felonies we commited on the way. WITCHCRAFT has a new favorite as of 06:23 on Mar 28, 2020 |

Honestly I think editing the scene from the film would do it. Put a ring on his hand, keep the building tension, then when he pushes the gear down the center disc just turns into the Abyss https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nkx3pd5ULJs

Was dicking around with one of my old servers today, when I finally realized why I have been having problems installing Windows 2012 / 2008 on it. It's an old HP ML570 G2, with quad Xeon processors @ 3 ghz each and 32 gigs of RAM. It used to be a VMWare ESX host, but I stopped using it a while back and it's been collecting dust. Guess who just learned that super early Xeons were 32 bit? I loving love this server but being stuck on x86 is going to limit what I do with it. I guess I never realized before that the version of ESX I had on it was 32 bit, I just figured I couldn't run 64 bit VMs because it didn't support virtualization technology. It's a beast, and sounds like a jet engine when it starts up. It has hot swappable RAM and PCI ports! Obsolete now, but still cool. Maybe I'll throw 32 bit Linux on it and use it for... something. I'm probably going to try to sell it and put the money towards a newer server I can run 64 bit VMs on, Craigslist has lots of 'em.

I gather that's using PAE, otherwise 28GB of your RAM would be doing nothing? So would VMware ESX restrict each VM to a maximum of 4GB of RAM allocation or does it expose the PAE to the VMs? 32-bit Linux won't let any individual process use more than 4GB of RAM, although there are ways they can ask for more memory that isn't actually in their address space or something right? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension#Microsoft_Windows says Windows Server 2008 supports PAE, but you'd need an Enterprise/Datacenter version to be able to use all the RAM. I suppose it's probably a similar story where you wouldn't be allowed to use all the CPUs without Enterprise/Datacenter. I could have this all wrong though

I was thinking about that too but I assume it was PAE or something, yeah. I used to have 16 gigs in it, and I swear I was running multiple Windows 2003 and Linux VMs using most of that up. I can't recall if it let me allocate more than 4 to a single VM, I don't think I ever tried... I didn't realize there was a Windows 2008 x86 image, I swear my MSDN (well, Visual Studio subscriber downloads now) only had x64 available before, but now I see it! I might give that a spin then.

It's an old HP ML570 G2, with quad Xeon processors @ 3 ghz each and 32 gigs of RAM. It used to be a VMWare ESX host, but I stopped using it a while back and it's been collecting dust. So if those Xeon processors have hyperthreading, I know the trick that ESX was using to address the memory.. ESX "sees" 8 processors, 4 Real and 4 vurtual. It will give each processor 4 gigs of memory. This would allow the full 32 gigs of memory to be addressed running ESX. You could run 2008 with PAE, but why? PAE support for linux i is not part of most i386 distros You would need to find one that you can run the kernal with -pae in the documentation. I think the only OS right now that supports PAE OOB is FreeBSD. I know how fun running old servers is, but I found a much better way for my sanity (wife acceptance factor) and power consumption. I have this https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/190107/intel-nuc-9-extreme-kit-nuc9i9qnx.html running 14 VMs with free ESXi 6.7u3. Quite frankly I never see all the CPUs pegged and everything from my pfSense firewall, Plex media server, Microsoft Server 2019 lab, and Mac OS X Catalina VMs run without a hitch. I even have an External Thunderbolt GPU hooked up to it for graphics acceleration for the Windows and OS X vms. I dropped my power bill by 60 dollars a month from my old servers, and never looked back.

I grabbed a 20GB and a 60GB IDE HDDs from work yesterday so I can upgrade the OS on my PowerMac G3 without nuking my 8.6 install. Also saw a computer in the e-Waste pile that was built by my first full time workplace. I almost set it on fire.

Today I've been clearing out my hoarder cave because once you start 'temporarily' putting things on top of the car it's game over. Among the shite is my Goblin Teasmade. These were ubiquitous, but you don't see them at all nowadays so I think it fits the thread. For the uninitiated, a Teasmade is an alarm clock. But before the alarm sounds, it brews you a lovely pot of tea. What a great start to your day. The alarm is a little bit superfluous since it is preceded by a small kettle very loudly boiling and spraying you with flecks of hot water. The automatic light (it comes on with the alarm) is also brutally bright for bleary eyes. There is no snooze button, only cold tea. So you'd better get up now.
