Unite: MASH!!
~They've got the bad guys on the run!~
Everyone talks about Ryuji being the arrogant idiot, but it was Morgana who was pushing hardest to jump into Okumura’s Palace. Sure, he was doing it out of an identity crisis rather than a desire for fame, but both were driven by attempts to bolster their damaged egos.

The others (except Haru and Futaba to a lesser extent) weren’t blameless since they let the dumb kid and loud cat drag them into this mistake. They weren’t ego-tripping or throwing a tantrum like those two, but they did all want fame to an extent and let it make them sloppy. Unfortunately, by the time they got their heads on straight, they had already gotten caught and had a deadline to save Haru to keep them from asking questions.

Yeah the boss of Okumura palace is a loving piece of poo poo, people were not exaggerating.

For the people who've beat it, what level were you? Wondering if I've gone in too early, the guide I was using gave two options at the point I was at, either to go in, get Haru activated, leave and then clear the palace much later or just clear it all but then the guide carried on as if I guess you took the first option cause none of the confidants it was suggesting afterwards were available for me after I cleared the whole palace in that initial visit. So then I saw I had a bunch of days with no confidants available figured I'd reload to the start of those two days and just send the calling card. Maybe I should go do mementos and get Haru's baton pass up or something.

Yeah, and that's why the whole Morgana/Ryuji thing is most people's least favorite part of the game. It's not that this arc doesn't make sense, it's that it's not good and it feels more like the writers needed an excuse for you to keep going after they had already made it clear that the stakes were getting too high to justify going to another palace. So, to do that, they settled on everybody not having a brain long enough to introduce Haru to keep you forced into continuing to act as Phantom Thieves, even after everyone has agreed that it's a bad idea. Like, the game says that Persona users can't have palaces because Persona users are incapable of being out-of-touch with their own desires, but it really feels like Ryuji isn't any better than Mishima, who lets the whole thing go to his head so much you have to stop him in Mementos

I did Makoto my first playthrough since it kinda felt like the game was pushing her particularly during the fourth palace. She proceeded to drop the bombshell on me that her dream is to become a cop way too late to backout. :argh: Second play through was Ann, who was boring as hell mostly thanks to her confidant series being pretty lackluster.

Honestly the irony with that comparison is that if anything it's Mishima who comes off as way more cognizant of his desires than Ryuji. Ryuji has his desire to punish adults who take advantage of their power slowly twisted into wanting fame and fortune. Mishima meanwhile from the word go clearly just wants to feel like he's part of the PT's and therefore important, and his slow escalation feels less like his desires being twisted and more him feeling like he can be more honest with Joker.

Yeah dating Futaba felt really icky. It feels like predatory grooming and I just don’t like it. She is an awesome character yes but yeah that’s a no for me.

Also can’t date Kawakami because the age difference between the protagonist and her is also :barf:

Ann doesn’t do it for me... I just don’t connect with her at all and her confidant progression was so bland. also I feel like she and Shioh seemed like a cute couple and really didn’t want to break them up in my head cannon

Out of the entire cast that are awesome enough to consider dating in game would Be Makoto, Ryuji (dammit Atlus give us options if we want them), and Haru. They were always more interesting then the rest of the cast and since I can’t date Skull and I dated Queen last time I have one option left and that’s the Bazooka and Garden tending Noir

Also if you read the last two paragraphs above at all you can tell I am shipping trash.

The thing that seals the Futaba romance as incredibly disgusting and offputting is that Futaba does not confess, or even really read any kind of romance into her relationship with Joker unless you explicitly tell her. Like the "confession" scene is her being happy she's completed her promise list which is an emotionally charged moment for her, and she comments that her heart is beating fast but doesn't know why. The only reason a romance starts is if you pick a response that is essentially "ah yes, that is because you are in fact in love with me. Wanna bang?" Which is just :yikes:

It feels like a weird translation or something that wasn't fixed. "You have us" would be a better option to decline the romance while staying friends

If anyone else has trouble with Okumura at the end of his palace and doesn't mind changing the difficulty, try knocking it up to merciless. It makes it so you do triple damage with stuff enemies are weak to and there's nothing that'll take advantage of your weaknesses in the fight. Felt a bit dirty but that fight is loving awful, still had to use a few revival beads as well.

The high school romances in these games are incredibly chaste. There is no response that's essentially "wanna bang?" The adult-teenager romances in this game are creepy, but you're basically just inventing manipulation and exploitation that don't exist in the text of the game, and taking it to an even further gross point all on your own.

I do like it but I believe you're correct in that in the Japanese the difference between what Joker is saying makes more sense. That said having seen Ann's romance route I do like it. It's no going to see violent yakuza films with Makoto, but it's nice.

I went to Memento's and was waiting for something to happen IRL so I stayed for a few hours and made 2 million yen and 10 levels. I might do some more. Managed to finish the strength confidant because a DLC persona has the last skill you need that you normally need to wait til super late in the game to get the skill card for. It's a free DLC persona if anyone cares. Kaguya Picaro started with High Counter

I'm so mad, I wanted to get everyone maxed before doing Shido's Palace, but the game locks you out of party Confidants when you only have a week left before the deadline and you haven't finished the Palace! :argh: I'm left with only Yusuke and Haru (and Mishima, but he's unavailable while this Palace is still up) left at Rank 9 each. It's not a huge problem, the benefits of maxing them aren't that huge, but I was using Yusuke especially a ton this playthrough.

I was two days short. I probably could have just maxed Takemi and Shinya last and been golden with no other changes.

Haven't tried on Royal yet but in Vanilla getting to the treasure, having the calling card conversation at the hideout, and then backing out of actually sending it will unlock party confidants.
