I just beat the final boss and I haven't looked at the two trophies I'm missing but I'm fairly certain I'll get the plat when I hit credits.

e: also beating the Reaper is laughably easy if you get Ryuji's thirdform Persona

Am I gonna be able to max out all Confidants? I'm at the Holy Grail and have everyone (including Maruki, Akechi, and Yoshizawa) maxed except for Iwai and Shinya (both at Rank 7, haven't completed either Mementos request).

You should be alright? I think?

I think I'm in the same boat as a fair number of people where I've been nose to the grindstone on maxing confidants but at the expense of not having done any of the new stuff like darts or the jazz bar or billiards. That being said, I just finished the school trip and have mathed out how long it will take me to max out all the remaining social links, and I think I'll actually be able to make it before the end of December? It was 40 total days back in the middle of August. This has been with no strategy guide and just guessing on all the answers during the links themselves. My Charm is maxed out and all other stats at four, Guts should max out soon too.

But also with what everyone has been saying, this is by a mile the easiest SMT game. I think about all the insane damage combos like making technical damage as high as possible with traits and then using Swift Strike + Auto-Sukukaja to instakill all sleeping targets, but then realize that's four steps past the point where literally any attack on a sleeping target is already an instakill

Also I have absolutely no idea how much of this is small dialogue changes or just me but I feel like Yusuke is actually pretty well-grounded and way less goofy? Like, he's one of the biggest voices of reason on the team even after Makoto joins, even explicitly calling Alibaba's bluff of threatening to call the cops. I've always liked him but this time around I'm enjoying a lot more of his less zany aspects.

Yusuke was always fairly smart and well-grounded, it's just there was less content over-all and indeed some weird translation goofs. He's meant to be a bit, odd about art and personal care but otherwise bright.

Man I picked this game up last night and was skeptical going in based on my SMT experience but this game whips. The graphics are really good for the PS4, or maybe it’s just the exceptionally colorful and stylistic aesthetic, but it’s really compelling. Got as far as the “safe room” bit of the tutorial

It took me like three or four hours to get that far and I feel like I still haven’t met some mechanics, but the battle system is fun and I love the whole background with imaginary guns and stuff

All that being said it seems like I’m at the actual beginning now where time / activities / choices make a difference, like I could only choice one of the dialogue choices in the weird jail, etc. Any important tips? Or just keep in mind what people said about hanging out with your friends in the evening (I haven’t unlocked any confidant things yet I don’t think)

The game will explain anything really important relatively well, try and keep a balance of hanging out with people and raising the social stats (knowledge, charm etc) cause a few of the confidants have hard requirements of those to continue them midway through. I'd suggest prioritising party members confidants as well whenever possible, they have in battle perks for leveling up their confidants whereas most of the others have other benefits that are a bit less immediate.

Cool thanks, I just unlocked the confidant thing a moment ago and it seems like a lot to process but hopefully there’s plenty of time to do what you’re talking about, I’ve already been very accommodating to Ryuji and Being A Good Friend seems important thematically

Also, I downloaded the freelc, and as a result I have like dozens of accessories and persona outfits. Should I just be swapping those around and seeing what the effect is? Or is there some downside I’m not aware of yet

The choice you couldn't pick in the Velvet Room is just to tease you, it can only be picked on New Game Plus.

The outfits are totally cosmetic but have the side effect of changing your battle music to something from the various games they're referencing. The DLC accessories are really strong and a little broken. If there's anything I recommend you straight-up don't do from that DLC, it's summon a Persona from the Compendium whose name is in gold with a cost of 0 yen. Those are DLC Personas, they're all busted, and they give them to you immediately.

The only real tip I can give wrt time management is:

- some confidants like death grant social stat points when you rank them up. They add up quite a bit over time.

- some activities don’t take up time and give 1 point to a stat. Examples are doing the crossword puzzle in leblanc on nights when it is available and drinking the juices in Shibuya’s underground.

- some confidants will rank up every single time regardless of how many “points” you score with them in dialogue. Others require points (the little blue notes) in between ranks to rank up. Having the corresponding arcana in your persona inventory will grant a boost to the little notes you earn with them, potentially shaving off a few days of needing to hang out with them to rank them up. Eg when hanging out with Ryuji, try always having a chariot arcana persona in your inventory (not necessarily equipping it).

- spread out a bit who you’re hanging out with. Confidants are only available on certain days of the weeks and if you neglect one of them it might be difficult to get through all remaining ranks in time in the late game as they may only be available two days of the week or so.

EDIT: and also don’t stress out too much. Some confidants you will not find particularly interesting so you can just neglect them for your eventual ng+ run. It’s fine just focusing on the people you find cool or useful.

This is a fact. Nothing has even come close.

That said, the Persona 5 soundtrack is one of the top soundtracks of all time. My only gripe with P5R so far is the new combat theme isn’t as good, but that just means I’m free to swap in all the costume themes I largely ignored in P5 vanilla.

Doing the new Semester now and I've started working my way through the palace proper now. Two thoughts

- Goddamn Ryuji actually destroyed the leveling curve. There's nothing left, it's all rubble now.

- I appreciate that they kept Akechi an rear end in a top hat for this rather than undoing his arc entirely.

Gameplay question about the final boss: Is the second form involved at all, because I accidentally killed him in a single round with Fighting Spirit, Debilitate, and Masquerade. I'm assuming there's got to be something else there because they give that form lyrics for his boss song and the final form after that is basically a glorified cutscene.

Hell if I know as I plowed through it pretty much as quickly as you did.

Also I definitely prefer Akechi when he is stopping trying to pretend he is anything more then a bloodthirsty lunatic. Like his showdown move with the protagonist is amazing.

Welp, made it through the Palace 5 boss. That got a bit silly in the end, not because of the waves of robodudes but because I'm a loving idiot and decided to attack Haru-bot to stop her self-destruct sequence (because the game tells you to do that instead of guarding like a sensible person). Unless I missed something, it seems completely impossible to deal enough damage to her in two turns to actually prevent the blast, at least on Merciless, so that was a party wipe and I got to do the whole thing over again. Second time around I put it on Normal and had plenty of time to spare at the end, although I still nearly died to the self-destruct because I still wasn't able to deal enough damage to kill Haru-bot before that.

Yeah it's dumb that one of your party members explicitly says "Oh god we have to stop Haru robot before she blows up!" when there's not enough time for that unless you get insanely lucky on multiple crits or have an overpowered persona on Joker. I just guarded through it and nobody got downed.

I honestly didn't mind the Palace 5 boss since it's already so easy to break the game over your knee, it was nice to have a circumstance where I was actually at risk of losing even on hard mode.

My only problem was that if you wanted to change party members or equipment there was a ten minute intro between the safe room and the boss

So I'm on the 18th and the game just opened up, and I'm fighting the urge to follow a guide for maximizing my time. I have very little cash so my plan was to go to try to do one of the quests near shibuya which seemed like a thing when I was passing through, and then talk to the doctor and stuff - I looked up a guide and it has pretty specific things to do every day

people said earlier that you can basically do fine without following a guide and don't have to be terribly concerned if you're not min maxing every minute, i assume that's true enough that if i just follow my instincts for a bit as someone who has been successful with JRPGs in the past, I'll be okay? I ask because in the first palace there were some moments where we were dealt a good amount of damage and my memory of SMTIV involved dying like, a shitload, which I'd rather avoid though I guess I can just crank the difficulty down

so many systems! I loled when I realized four hours in I was just getting through the tutorial. the network features are neat, too, and I wonder how people are average level 7 when I'm level 5 and fought every monster i saw. generally though I love that it has a loose in-game guide for you
