Hitman 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. The fact that you can play the 2016 levels seamlessly in its upgraded engine just cements its position, because every map is awesome in some way and I could bean people with bricks for hours.

The XCOM panic voice clips do a great job of selling the fact that your soldier has cracked hard enough to stop acting rationally and do something like accidentally shoot a teammate. I don’t feel like someone was whackin’ it to them at all, it’s something that gets you invested in your troops. Half the fun of XCom is the narrative that you make in your head around your troops, so anything that makes you identify with them more is a very good thing. Also, anyone who hasn’t tried it- play any of the new XComs with a controller. It sounds crazy but try it, it’s waaaay better than playing with M+KB and you’ll never throw a grenade at the wrong square again.

I hope they'll add Hitman 2016 and Hitman 2018 to the next Hitman release so I can end up with 300 GB of Hitman (instead of 150 like right now)

I've played a bit of Filament, and it didn't really click with me, even though I loved The Witness. The puzzles feel somewhat less "precise" than in The Witness, and a bit more repetitive. And I'm really annoyed that they have a feature where you can see the whole level at once, but you are not allowed to solve the puzzles in that mode, you can only draw the line when zoomed in.

I was reading a review of Fell Seal and I was about to get it but can someone confirm that you can't rotate the map in battle because that to me is a must in pretty much every isometric SRPG I've played that has height differences

But I haven't run into a map where it bothered me (about 12 hours in). I will say that means there haven't been really interesting maps.

I'm also enjoying Chimera Squad, but it's not really the direction I was hoping a new Xcom would go in. I've always thought the story pieces were the worst part of the Firaxis Xcoms (although the setting is great), I'm much more interested in the systems and the overall goals of Xcom than I am in how the Triad guy or the French Psi ladies or Lily Shen feel about things. I much prefer just having aliens to fight and stories emerging from how your rookies evolve into hardened soldiers and then tragically get killed when you trigger 5 pods at once (and then if it's Enemy Within you Robocop them*). It's neat as a smaller Xcom-adjacent game that popped up out of nowhere though. I like Breaching, even if it means things can't get as hilarious out of hand as in the earlier games, and the non-turn ending abilities and Breach abilities give you a lot more interesting things to do. I dislike the character focus a bit, I want to hire 10 rookies and throw them into combat and end up with 3 snipers, not hire Steve the shootman with a unique ability to fire a gun at 2 targets. It's also a little strange that despite the character focus the agents are completely interchangeable in the base - Your huge rage-based melee Mutons are exactly as good at helping out with Reseach/Manufacturing/Spying as Technical specialists or anyone else. I'd rather just have Engineers and Scientists again. I wish I could use my cool Robot as an actual squad member rather than just a backup. This is super trivial, but some of the Skill names and descriptions are either strange or lazy seeming, like it was passed off to an intern or outsourcer. E.g. "Deadeye" is a skill which you would expect to be accurate, but instead it lowers accuracy and increases damage. "Head shot" would seem like a much more apt name, or really anything that sounds like a tougher shot to hit a vital area. I also saw a character called "Claymore" (as in the directional land mine) whose two skills were Shrapnel bomb and Concussive charge so not only is he called "Bomb guy", with his two bomb-based abilities, but they are both standard features of a regular bomb. Just Frag grenade/Flashbang as in the previous games would make more sense. I realise most people won't care about this, I have just wrote lots of game text so I tend to pay attention to it. *= Someone was asking for any reasons to play Xcom 1 over 2 earlier, and I think Enemy Within is a great reason to do so. Using alien tech to turn soldiers into massive cyborgs or biologically enhanced superhumans was a great addition. Plus I think the rush for timed Meld canisters to gain resources was more interesting than just timers that you need to beat or you lose. And if your brain is broken in the right way, the Long war mod can be a lot of fun.

I'm way more into the unique characters with very different abilities and play styles than the more generic X-Com rookies. Plus I'm enjoying everyone's personalities.

I'd be disappointed in the deviations if it were a new mainline XCOM gamenbut as a spinoff they're a nrat take on the series imo.

A Proper Uppercut posted:Are you playing VD2 with M+K or controller? I've been thinking of picking it up, but I pretty much only game on my couch with a controller nowadays. I've been playing KB+M, I'm not sure how well it would work with a controller but should be do-able. There's a good amount of buttons for various menus and stuff which I think is going to be your main issue if you're limited on buttons.

I kind of felt the same way about puzzles being "imprecise" at first but the rules of how the line travels/touches stuff have clicked with me and there's not anything that requires exact positioning. Personally I'm really, really enjoying it even though it's kicking my rear end-- solved a couple hidden meta-puzzles too and felt extremely clever

If you own the complete version of Hitman 2016/season one on Steam (so all 6 maps) you can download that free version of Hitman 2 (which has Hawke's Bay) and after playing it once it will automatically start downloading those "Legacy Pack" levels.

IIRC you only need an e-mail address or can even link your Steam/PSN/Xbox account. And yeah I think on Steam it just auto links, might require visiting the right ingame menu once and then restarting the game.

I'm trying out Age of Wonders: Planetfall since it came with Game Pass and... I think I'm not feeling it? I loved AoW3 but I can't just put my finger on what I don't like about this game. The setting is a bit more interesting than ye old standard fantasy fare and I like some of the additions like the new research system and outpost expansion, but I'm not liking the combat changes. Chance to hit feels weird and I don't think I quite like the way cover works in this game. Plus the UI feels very busy, particularly the colored tiles denoting AP expenditure. Maybe I just don't like 4Xs as much as I did before Despite the two being very different games with different gameplay expectations and styles, I found Northgard to be very fun and relatively straightforward (been playing a bunch of Conquest mode and some MP on the side) so maybe that's tinting my perception a bit.

I don't know what a ludonarrative is, but from long-standing familiarity with the kind people who come up with words like that, I'm making an educated guess that it's probably something of dumb, knind of obvious and something that most people would doesn't really matter enough to need a special word for it. How close am I?

is Sunless Skies good? I didn't play the first one but I played Fallen London a little like 10 years ago and liked the setting. I don't need a deep sim or anything I'm just interested in loving around and ending up in weird story situations
