For some reason, I completely forgot Rodman was on those Pistons teams. I remember absolutely hating Laimbeer though.

He was actually a not-terrible scorer early in his career too. He averaged double-digit points per game one season!

He was a fairly normal (really loving good) defense first wing for the era when he started and while he remained a great defender for the rest of his career he also decided at some point 5-6 years in that he wanted to get rebounds more than anything else in the world and he went from averaging 8-9 a game to suddenly averaging like 18 a game. It is maybe the weirdest basketball career of all time

Which brings us back to the main point: the only reason why Bill Simmons is out there calling Rodman "boring" is because Rodman played against Simmons' precious Larry Bird. Seriously, Simmons has taken a massive poo poo on just about every notable player that has gone up against Bird in a playoff setting at some point.

there was a brooks brothers (i think?) ad painted on the side of a building on the Kennedy Expressway that had Rodman on it in black and white except they used to color his hair more or less keeping up with his current styles and it used to literally cause traffic jams.

Poor Scott Burrell.

Loved how the tied Jackson and Rodman together. They were really similar in some ways. Not sure many coaches would have been able to handle that.

MourningView posted:

Krause did exactly what he wanted which was take all the bullets for Reinsdorf being a tight rear end. It's not like Krause decided not to renegotiate Pippen's deal or refuse to give Jackson a big raise all on his own. Keeping costs down was always Jerry's primary concern with the Bulls and why he did poo poo like promote a random baseball scout to GM into the first place. That he turned out to be pretty decent at the job and built a dynasty was just a happy accident. If anything Krause being a weird and unlikable person was a point in his favor because it made it more likely that the press and players would focus all their ire on him instead of ownership.

Krause sucks but it also seems lovely that he is taking all the blame in the documentary. Reinsdorf didn't want to dish out like $100 million to bring everyone back next year. He had other investors too that were pissed. The plan was to have a team with a low salary that could win because they thought you could just swap players in and out of the triangle offense and succeed.

Funny thing is that if Reinsdorf had just slow played it, he would have been able to keep everyone for cheaper than he had before. The max contract after the lockout was $14 million. $5 million less than what Jordan was making by himself. Then again the Bulls went comically low with their payroll for the ensuing years so maybe even that wasn't good enough for him.

Most of these guys are capitalist to their bones, which is the reason they're rich in the first place. It's not about winning, it's about making as much money as possible, and you can sometimes make more money with a middle of the road team than a championship one.

hell, the owner who shared the same stadium (bill wirtz, blackhawks) said in the mid 90s "Don't you be thinking about winning any Stanley Cups. They're too expensive"

loving Bill Wirtz. Major sports leagues are funny though because while the owners are all insanely rich, the league itself is very socialist. They split most of the revenue equally among the teams, like TV and merchandising. It makes sense because it allows teams in smaller markets to compete, but also gives incentive for larger market teams to not be as competitive because they know they can still turn a profit, and there's enough people in the city to bring in some gate revenue, no matter how bad the team.

It already is a bit. If you look at streetwear we're in a full early 90's renaissance. I was at Nike/Undefeated party a few months ago and a group of guys who were probably at oldest 21-25 max were all wearing baggy as gently caress jeans.

the documentary only exists because jordan got mad that a bunch of people started to argue lebron might be better after the '16 finals, he gave them permission to do it literally the day of the cavs victory parade

this clip is extremely funny but ehlo gets a bad rap he had a monster fourth quarter in that game and MJ had to hang in the air for like half an hour and double clutch to get off his shot
