Even without overhead I don't think that's that big of a triumph.

Lot of possibilities, not saying it's the way to go forward but rolling out something that drastic would take so many executive sign-offs and none of them individually would want to stake their career on it working.

I'd be interested in seeing numbers for The Hunt because that might be the best barometer for the success of VOD. It was briefly in theatres before the pandemic, and horror movie box office returns tend to be front-loaded. It brought in $5.8 million during its theatrical run and based on its reception I would expect it would have made about $12-16 million overall. If it could meet or exceed this then it would indicate that viewing habits are changing.

Also, having the military involvement matters less and less as visual effects takes over cinema. Who cares if you had to sacrifice the directorial and editorial control to get a platoon of M1A2 Abrams tanks for a scene, because you can have a visual effects studio whip up an armored division for you and keep your vision unmolested by the military brass.

In actual greenlighting news, prepare yourselves for a live-action Hercules! https://twitter.com/SkylerShuler/status/1255627709662679040 I'm not sure there's an appropriate replacement for Rip Torn as Zeus, sadly. On the other hand, Danny Devito can reprise his role as Phil just by being dressed up in horrifying CATS-esque CGI, so that's a plus.
