Here's how to beat Max: -He can't be grappled, stop trying. -Tackles don't hit you if you're directly above or below him, period. -If he's shaking he's gonna grab you. Start mashing both directions and buttons. You need both, just one won't do it unless you have turbo on your fingers. -If he's clasping his hands he's gonna do his spin. Before he powers up you can just walk away a little and then come back. Afterward you have to respect it a bit more, he does about four spins. Same concept tho. It's absolutely nothing like Abadede because Max has no combo breakers. You just have to get a short combo (three-four hits tops or a dash attack) and then either neutral special or go to a safespot. I chunked him for like 20% of his life on multiple passes once I knew what I was doing, even on Mania. Specialing through his attacks makes it entirely possible to wreck him immediately. That + his neutral special seems to be how he gets his damage when the enemy is superarmored.

I have tossed Floyd aside in favor of Adam, who I still don't find as fun as Blaze but eh, he's pretty good also just discovered you can change what your food looks like from the options menu

I gotta get good at neutral jumping, it feels like such a counterintuitive way to avoid damage but I know it's the key to pro play E; the real pro play is bouncing around like a maniac as Cherry and smashing fools with your guitar

Maybe I need to see a video but are people just hitting jump when an attack is coming their way? Is it due to i frames?

It was nice playing this as part of Gamepass, but I'm probably gonna buy it on Steam tonight. I'm on/off cat sitting for someone out of town (and stuck out of town due to quarantine), and their internet isn't so hot. -If the ping is too high, the game won't launch and suggests I enable offline mode (I need to find that setting) -Can't play with friends who bought on Steam -The missing video options are no big deal -If you alt-tab too long (like say a cat hops up on your laptop keyboard and demands pets, which you provide because that's why you're over there for a few hours) the game just closes itself when you tab back. After Axel provided me no satisfaction and only slow movement, I swapped to SoR1 Alex and have been beating the poo poo out of Hardest. It's still not magically easier and he lacks all of the new features and kickass specials, but a few knuckle taps and be obliterates lots of the more annoying mooks that have low HP pools. I hope the save file can just be copied over. Otherwise, that's 5-6 hours of unlocks and the story mode I'll have to redo.

I just got through Old Pier on Mania and it was necessary to survive some of the absolutely insane Ruby/Garnet packs there.

Well, save files look the same in a text or hex editor, but the Steam version doesn't recognize the WinStore version. Back to having nothing is what I am.

Unlocked Adam and he feels so damned good to play. I tried Blaze but the temptation to spam her overhead is pretty strong with me which gets me into trouble, and I love being able to dash around like a nimble boxer with Adam. Floyd loving owns too.

Floyd is my character of choice at the moment. Amazing crowd control. His lack of mobility means he's a sitting duck for enemies with armour until you get used to them though.

Also getting a sword hurled into your spine from offscreen sucks. Particularly when the level the broadsword appears in is the same dark grey colour pallette.

You know who can't gently caress themselves? Those hapless lovely robots that I don't think have done any damage to me during any playthrough. They're kind of endearingly pathetic and they are less of a threat than your average Galsia.

But my "gently caress you" enemy, in addition to the biker women, is the assholes who keep their hands in their pockets, especially the Iron Fist ones that do the triple spin kicks. I have a hard time getting in on them in any screen where I can't pin them against a wall, and the loving ship has a whole hallway full of them from both sides where there's no Z-axis so you just get railed because it's not like you can juke the attacks. gently caress those guys.

Holy poo poo, I just beat Chinatown on Mania. That was basically the most insane act of gaming in my life. Every single screen has at least one thing that can instantly drop you, sometimes more than one! Very humbling to put on possibly the greatest performance of my beatemup career and only hit C rank.
