Even if they had a private PC, they'd likely have to be talking about sensitive material and perhaps personal matters where their family would likely be able to hear it, and if they perhaps had a conservative family, or simply had things they didn't feel ready to share with even a relatively progressive family yet, that could get real uncomfortable real quick.
