It struck me shortly after the last time the thread talked about how bad Little Mac is, but just to put even more nails in the Mac-really-sucks-coffin, if you want to play as an in-your-face fighter with a speedy ground game with both great frame data and explosive KO potential along with a lackluster recovery ... just play as Roy or Chrom.

Outside of the finicky KO meter, what does Little Mac have over them? Why have super armor on your smash attacks when you can just have a sword instead, why hit an opponent once or twice before having to win neutral again when you can have moves that actually combo into each other move your opponents into dangerous positions, why have no aerial presence whatsoever both on and off-stage when you ... can and can again combo said aerial moves into other options?

And just to kick some more dirt onto said coffin, I really hate how Little Mac's character is portrayed in the Smash games. He's way too serious-looking and frown-y. He's just a little kid with big dreams, he should at least have a doofy smile during his victory animations or something, whooping and/or hollering. Give me Doc Louis, Sakurai.

the secret good way to buff Mac would be to reduce the amount of time it takes for him to drop his shield and to make him able to cancel spot dodges earlier into attacks*

the trick to being good at Punch-Out is to know how to block and dodge well**, and that's how it should work in Smash, too

*I am aware characters can already do this, I mean even more

**I mean when you're playing through normally, not memorizing the patterns blindfolded or etc.

This would be horrible to play against even if it didn't make him an actual better character. Having to learn specific defense timings specifically for Little Mac because he gets to cheat at universal mechanics would be frustrating, and unless they make it very clear that he's getting an advantage here it would lead to a lot of anger and confusion with the player base at Little Macs just started punishing folks out of shield cause... it's Mac? Think about how infuriating Mr. Game and Watch currently is because he's the best at using a similar mechanic that still gets applied universally to everyone, so at least folks that learn absolute timings can still tap his shield, and now apply this to a character who is literally cheating at this otherwise standardized mechanic.

Little Mac is a failed experiment. Smash is a platform fighter and Little Mac is designed to be unable to actually handle the platform aspect of the game. I have no idea how overtuned his ground game would have to get to make up for his inability to actually have any kind of effective air presence considering how badly his offense AND defense suffer for it, but his Smash 4 version was basically about as idealized a ground character compared to his game as anyone could possibly be and he was still a risky, janky counterpick at best because he still struggles to get actual punish opportunities on his more airborne opponents while being a victim once popped up himself. He probably just needs a Bowser-tier reworking where he needs his strengths pushed while getting his weaknesses toned down- not a GOOD air game, but a FUNCTIONAL one.

Little Mac is loving BORING and nobody actually likes playing as him or against him.

I like playing as Ike because he is beefy. Honestly the heavyweights only this game are all super fun. Ike, dk, incineroar and k tool all own. Ridley is my sentimental favorite but he’s not really that heavy relative to the others I guess

Banjo is wildly fun to play. He doesn't play anything like a Heavyweight but he's got all the weight he needs.

Ike owns though too. It's hilarious seeing this beefy dude and knowing that his most dangerous asset is being able to slice through the air like a demented windmill.

I always felt that Banjo actually plays surprisingly like he does in the original games; a bit slow and durable, with a somewhat disparate but useful toolbox of abilities including a trump card if necessary. And having explosives is always nice.

I will agree that Little Mac is fun in a casual setting or where everyone agrees to turn their brains off. In a serious game, he's torture to play and a chore to play against.

I get more kills with Banjo's fair than any other move I think in the entire game. And his bair is appropriately powerful given that it is actuallyteh Rat-a-tat Rap.

who's the worst character to watch? seems like the current poor sap to poo poo on is sonic(and , but I think palutena is the least fun to watch someone play beyond that.

I used to like watching high level Game and Watch play when Maister was really starting to make a big showing, but it's started to get a bit tedious.

also it's hilarious seeing high-end ROB players make strong showings against most characters and then run into, like, Tweek's Wario or Esam's Pikachu and just evaporate

This.

Sonic was hastily designed because he was a last minute addition to Brawl (due to SEGA being picky about the rights) and as a result his moveset is boring and uninspired, and they've just never gone back and improved it.
