Not going to lie. I still dig that sweet sweet So Cal punk.

I have always loved NOFX and I also like The Decline so I thought I would have said “yes please” to a live recording with an orchestra, but the cinematography on that video is absolutely awful. I enjoyed it much more when I closed my eyes and just listened.

Listen buddy, if you pay for an effects suite you’re not going to get the full value unless you use all of them in one video.

(Yeah it’s awful, and a real shame because the performance is good but it was so offputting the entire time. The raw footage looked decent enough for the most part, I’d love to see it put together in a less completely manic way).

Calentamiento Global is way better than it has any right to be.

EDIT: Also speaking of new albums and spanish lyrics, Viva Belgrado released a new album which...is pretty different from their earlier ones and I don't know how I feel about it. The previous albums were more La Quiete, this one is like...Foxing? I dunno, definitely a softer approach.

My DIY label What's For Breakfast? Records is doing spring cleaning, you can get a ton of 45s or tapes or LPs mailed to your house basically at cost if you want. Eight 45s or ten tapes mailed for $30, for example. It's basically all punk although there were stretches where it leaned towards garage and stretches where it leaned towards post-hardcore, and there's the occasional DIY basement pop band or old friend doing acoustic stuff popping in. Most people can't pick but if you say Something Awful in the 'referred from' field, I'll omit the one or two clunkers in the cassette back catalog and make sure you get the primo stuff. Check it out if you're inclined at wfbrecords.com.

I never felt like I noticed that big of a difference in the remaster, but I didn't exactly listen to them side by side or anything, and Failed States is already like, tied for my second favorite Propagandhi record, so I'd have been predisposed to liking it anyways.

Remastering an album like three years after it came out is very silly to me unless it just had a godawful job done on first release.

It was seven, but I guess the band just wasn't that happy with the mix the first time around? At least, that's what a cursory internet search says.

It's hard to rank Propagandhi albums because they all kick a ton of rear end. How to Clean is probably my least played one nowadays though

Same, I think it's mostly just because all the pieces of what makes Propagandhi great are there, but everything hasn't quite clicked yet. Like, if I had to make a tier list of their albums, it would be:

S+: Less Talk More Rock
S: Supporting Caste, Failed States
S-: Potemkin City Limits, Victory Lap
A+: Today's Empires Tomorrow's Ashes
A: How To Clean Everything

Not to mention that "Anti-Manifesto" is one of the greatest first-song-side-ones of all time.

NinetySevenA

I’m the opposite. I like less talk and how to clean a ton but most everything after that to me is average at best. The only thing they have done comparable is the cover of the rebel spell’s “I am a rifle”.

The new days n daze record came out a few days ago. It’s weird to hear the recording sound clean. It’s pretty good though.

For some of the not-hardcore (post-hardcore) I'm a fan of J. Robbins. Jawbox has a solid run of LPs (For Your Own Special Sweetheart has the track you probably heard), and if you want more of a punk he started as the bassist for Government Issue and they're worth checking out as well.
