Pretty sure my OG PS4 is dying. Shuts off randomly and the fan keeps doing weird stuff. Everything I google seems to point towards things that are Not Great. What a weird position to be in. Do I grab a new slim? Finally upgrade to a pro? Suck it up and wait for a PS5? Hmm.

October isn’t the worst I suppose. If I hadn’t just spent 600+150 on new recording gear and headphones I would just order a pro honestly. My timing sucks! I was thinking about going the repair route but Sony seems to have shut that down for now. No clue what kind of price that would run anyway.

Everyone should play DUKE games.

:dukedog:
During the time I was working at GameStop 2K gave us a free copy of any major 2K release including Borderlands 2. But at the GameStop manager conference Randy PItchford wasted a lot of time on the stage telling people they had to cheer more and more loudly for him otherwise no one would get their free copy of Borderlands 2 until he was satisfied with how loudly he was being cheered for. He came off as a smarmy used car salesman kind of person the entire time in general so when I heard the news about his money stuff with DN Forever and Colonial Marines I wasn't very surprised.

The squirt porn thing was made extra, well, extra, from when later Twitter conversations revealed that he's one of those people that thinks women do not actually orgasm and are only ever faking it 100% of the time which says basically everything you need to know about him.

Ten hours into The Sinking City (picked it up for 15$ on PSN right now) and I'm kinda loving this janky game?

Pros: The setting is fantastic. Just getting around the city is creepy as poo poo in a Silent Hill way. Assests are reused alot because the city is huge, but I still get goosebumps just driving my skiff around the sunken parts of the story. The first diving section had me making GBS threads myself.

The story is great. A lot of modern Cthulhu games have the problem of the protagonist going insane and discovering the horrors blah blah, but it's lost much of the impact as the Mythos became pop culture. In The Sinking City this isn't the reveal as much as the premise explicitly stated in the first minute. The game shaves off a lot of unnecessary explanation and gets right into an actual mystery that I don't already know the answer to.

The VA and character designs are pretty great. I haven't seen one re-used speaking npc and they all look interestingly creepy and different.

Middling: This game actually has you detectiving which is cool. There's a alot of different gameplay elements, good poo poo like recreating crime scenes and researching in archives. But also a lot of pixel hunting BS (I felt no shame referring to a walkthrough when I knew it was because I didn't look at something at the right angle or something).

Bad: The combat and every element around it is terrible. Just set the combat to easy. The game also runs like rear end on my PSpoor. Just constant frame drops and texture popping.

In conclusion, I definitely don't regret paying $15 for it, but it's definitely a Focus Home Entertainment game so set your expectations accordingly.

Don't worry it runs like rear end on a Pro too

There was an official Sony job listing that mentioned October as the PS5 release date but Sony has flat out denied it. They did say it's definitely holiday 2020, but I think because of the pandemic there's a chance it could slip into early next year. Besides the major interruption to manufacturing, working from home has already caused quite a few delays and interruptions - Diablo 3 PTR recently got delayed, Monster Hunter World just got a small content patch delayed (and it will lack some voice acting in a couple of languages), and a couple of live service games are having a horrendous time lately. FFXIV got a ton of maintenance, Destiny 2's current season is basically one big pile of buggy failure after failure even compared to how it usually is, all because everybody is working from home and the workflow isn't the same as it was.

Doesn’t seem like a bad deal for a stop-gap system until the PS5 comes out.

Even then I usually wait a year or two after a new console comes out to get the inevitable revision updates and also wait for the game catalogue to build up.

I still feel like an idiot because it wasn't even as impressive a break as that Sekiro tweet, the R2 button just got stuck and wouldn't spring down but 0/10 would not throw controller in a fit of babyrage again

I don't mean I'm confused about the mystery, like who this woman with the TV is or what was going on in the mine or if the D&D players were ghosts or something, I just have no loving clue what this game is trying to say or do, what the hell was that gallery scene all about? What the hell is going on? Do I need to take a course on this game after it's done so I can understand it?

Someone just level with me here, is this going to be one of those things where if I keep playing it'll all start to make sense or should I just get used to the whole thing having me at this level of bafflement until it finally ends and I can do something else? Hey goons! I come to you with a really obnoxious tech support issue that’s driving me bonkers. I’m hoping maybe one of y’all brilliant dudes can figure this out for me cause I’m on the verge of pulling out my hair.

The upload speed on my PS4 is borked. i’ve got gigabit down, 20 up, and the PS4’s connection test is showing anything from 150-400 down, (which is fine I don’t expect it to rate perfectly because I know Sony’s servers are often garbage), but the upload is always 5Mbps or under on tests. This matters because I Share Play a lot with other people, and they can’t stay connected to me. This is a new problem. It’s been going on for a few days. I find it weird that specifically upload and specifically upload on the PS4 are where the problems are. Things I’ve done already:

1. Forwarded the recommended ports in the gateway. (Yes I’m using crappy rental equipment, and I’m thinking about this is a next step but I don’t want to drop the money right now.)
2. Rebooted the gateway multiple times.
3. Changed the DNS servers the PS4 is using to Googles (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), yes I know this is likely snake oil but I’m getting desperate.
4. Tried other ethernet cables with the PS4 on the off chance that this is a wiring issue.
5. Tried PS4 on Wifi just to see if there’s any difference in speeds. There is not, and the PS4 is sitting right next to the gateway anyhow.
6. Called my ISP. I got some guy that was actually helpful and said he did notice some upload interference, and that there were enough alerts to hit a threshold and that they were looking into it on their end, but nothing changed since that call and I’ve talked to a couple people since then, all they want to do is reset my gateway. Ugh. I did set an appointment with a tech, thinking that maybe there’s a possibility that their boxes serving my apartment complex could be the culprit. They did do some equipment upgrades right after I signed up about two months ago. But I doubt it, since this issue has only been going on since Thursday.
7. Asked ISP about throttling, which went nowhere.
8. Check NAT type, it’s 2.
9. People suggest putting the PS4 in the DMZ but like hell I’m going to do that.

Is there anything I’m missing? This is a long weekend and I was looking forward to playing with folks, but at this point I pretty much exclusively host Share Play, and I can’t do that.

Provider is RCN in Chicago, FWIW. And all other devices rate fine for connection. I should be clear that normal multiplayer stuff to my knowledge is okay. I can also connect to multiple other people via Share Play just fine, but I’ve tried hosting with those same multiple people and I get the same problem. Video goes grainy, then drops, after about 5-10 mins. I think the upload is okay at first and then drops off.

If anyone has any other suggestions I’d be very grateful.

If it makes you feel any better (I'm sure it doesn't) this is my connection in a nutshell. DL speeds wonderful most of the time, upload usually like 2-3mbps. This is not good in shooters and constantly feels like half my bullets aren't registering. I have my PS4 in a DMZ, so that isn't a solution.

If you do find a fix please let me know as it's been like this for years. I blame lovely Comcast.

e: per the above comment, I've had a couple different routers during this time and no dice. I can't imagine all of them are bad

The interludes are usually setting up something in the next chapter: in the case of that one, the artist is a character in chapter 2, and the bit with the tapes ties in to stuff further down the line.

KRZ is an art gallery of a game, and that part just makes it literal. It is a guided tour of an art installation on poverty, regret, capitalism, and countless other things. Some parts will feel like they make sense, others will not and you’ll be confused about what is trying to be conveyed. It is not a game to play for the plot or the characters, though the game does go into them in part as it moves forward. For the most part though the characters you control are there to provide some context but not explain. It is a game to wander around, stare at for a bit, think about, and hopefully make your brain click about something.

If it never does that’s okay. All art cannot speak to everyone. There were only ever a few specific parts I could say I “understood.” There are some incredible aesthetically and musically designed parts later on I would say are worth seeing even devoid of any more subtle artistic impact they may have.

It’s hard to say anything specific about why it’s worth playing. Not because of spoilers but because so much is literally left up to each player to find and decide what was worth it. It could turn out to not be ever worth it for you and the only way you’ll ever know is to keep going.
