I don’t think anyone thinks they are?

It’s real, I watched the stream live.

There’s some music playing shortly after from Hotline Miami, too. Not sure if it’s coming from the Vita or the music player, though.

I already got into this a bit in the chat thread but MK’s violence is so campy and over the top and cartoonish that it’s really not the same thing for me as something like The Last of Us which is absolutely going for brutality and realism.

Last of Us 2 outdoing the Paz cutscene from Ground Zeroes for most gratuitous violence in a game. Gameplay looks...fine. I get that they haven't made a game like this in about a decade so they're playing catch-up on AAA action games that have released in the interim. But eh. You can go prone, there's a camo index, you can customize weapons that are visible on your character, you can use a climbing rope, you can jump over gaps, you can ride a horse, you can pit different enemy types against each other. All pretty commonplace mechanics for AAA games nowadays. I'm sure many will be well polished but nothing they showcased struck me as particularly unique or interesting. I wasn't a huge fan of the first game so I think this series just isn't for me.

The last of us is more for story than anything.

It’s still a video game so you have to show gameplay but they know that’s not what moves the units

Used to be true but MK current violence level is too realistic for me, like obviously not the way it's incurred but the level of detail and reactions of the characters is too much.

MK’s level of violence right now reminds me of the severed head aisle at Party City and other similar Halloween costume stores.

Gratuitous, over the top, technically realistic, but taken so far that it’s just absurd.

The core gameplay is pretty unique, I don't think any other game does anything quite like TLOU's survival-predator-stealth. So long as the new stealth and traversal mechanics enhance and amplify what sets TLOU apart, I think they won't come across as samey. It looks like the new stuff is there to enable encounters in much larger and more varied environments, which sounds awesome to me. I don't think the "analogue stealth" camo index thing is common in AAA games, they usually have the traditional binary stealth bushes. I'm glad to see TLOU2 isn't leaning on that old crutch.

TLOU1 plays really well on harder difficulties, so I kinda want to choose the easiest difficulty that disables listen mode, but I can see myself getting pissed when dogs keep sniffing me out because I can't see my scent trail.

To me the hardest modes are the most satisfying and the gameplay stuff looks way expanded in TLOU2, so I hope it will be doubly so here. But I am an unapologetic lover of TLOU gameplay and find the first one very replayable, so I will probably just soak in the story on normal and play it on again hard shortly after like I did with the first game.
