“Vice President Mike Pence favored the idea, reasoning that it would allow quicker action than calling up National Guard units, and he was backed by Mr. Esper. But Mr. Barr and General Milley warned against it. The attorney general cited concerns about states’ rights, while General Milley assured the president that he had enough force already in the nation’s capital to secure the city and expressed worry about putting active-duty soldiers in such a role.
...
Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence then conducted a conference call with the nation’s governors in which the president berated them for being “weak” and “fools,” advising them to “dominate” the demonstrators. Mr. Esper talked about controlling “the battlespace.””

The article implies that Barr was the one ordering the crowd disbursed,

But this was interesting to me

quote:

At 6:43 p.m., Mr. Trump made his statement in the Rose Garden, finishing seven minutes later, and then headed back through the White House to emerge on the north side and walk out the gates and into the park. Mr. Barr, Mr. Esper, General Milley, Mr. Meadows, Ms. Trump, Mr. Kushner and others followed him, but Mr. Pence and his staff hung back as the building emptied and watched on television instead.

Almost like Pence or his team knew this was going to be really bad looking.

Which is hilariously not what happened.

Found out what happened in DC.

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2020/06/02/trump-protests-washington-dc-muriel-bowser-karl-racine-296878

quote:

Even as the president admonished state and local officials on Monday to “dominate” the protesters, Washington, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine told Politico he would “not seek to prosecute” demonstrators arrested for violating the District’s 7:00 p.m. curfew, though he would pursue cases about “assaultive conduct and destruction of property.”

“The president has sought to use the District of Columbia as a prop to show how to stomp out lawful protest, using the full authority of the federal government,” said Racine. “Outrageous.”

Racine has spent much of the past few years bringing lawsuits against Trump, accusing the president of corruptly benefiting from profits derived from the Trump International Hotel in downtown Washington, a few blocks from the White House. Joining with Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, Racine sued Trump for violating the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause — a case, which, after pending in the courts for months, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled could go forward. It’s likely headed to the Supreme Court. “We look forward to pressing ahead,” Racine said.

Once Donnie had his bullshit border fence, it gave the DC Attorney General the space to force a deescalation, alongside the Mayor and Police Chief. They're both pissed off at Donnie threatening to commandeer their police departments.

The DC protest is still ongoing and the inner guards look bored as gently caress.

Armed man arrested for posing as National Guard in downtown LA
Police say a 31-year-old man dressed in a uniform, carried an assault rifle and tried to fall in line with National Guard troops in downtown Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Authorities took an armed man into custody Monday night in downtown Los Angeles after he tried to pose as a member of the National Guard.

Sources tell ABC7 that Gregory Wong, 31, dressed in attire similar to a National Guard uniform and took an Uber to downtown while carrying an assault rifle.

He then fell into formation with real National Guard troops who have been brought in to help maintain order during some of the looting that has occurred near otherwise-peaceful protests.

Some of the other National Guard troops noticed him and called over Los Angeles Police Department officers.

Wong was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday for manufacturing or distribution of an assault weapon.

Sources say Wong is a former member of the National Guard.

His rifle was a "ghost gun" - a homemade weapon without a serial number.

He is being held on $50,000 bond.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has said he has mobilized at least 4,500 National Guard troops across the state, concentrated in Southern California, to help keep the peace as thousands of people protest the death of George Floyd.

Most of the events themselves have been peaceful, but at times looters have taken advantage of the large crowds to hit stores in the area. Some protests have also seen some incidents of violence, rock throwing and fires.

In Los Angeles, for the most part National Guard troops have been used to secure locations, while local police officers remain at the front lines of controlling crowds.

Ooo! Look at me! NO DON'T LOOK AT ME!

It kinda blew my mind that I saw two clear problems with the idea, only to realise a second later that they were already solved.

One was that some cases might be hard because of lacking and unclear evidence. That would make this new agency drown in work since good investigations then takes obscene amounts of work.

Second was how do you strengthen this institution to resist mass-reporting and sabotage etc?

Guess what - if the PD's would have this much to lose, they'd best make sure there -was- clear evidence every time all the time. No more body cams that aren't running, no more unwatched angles, no more crap, everything auto-documented for their own safety. This is a surprisingly doable idea.

E. Doable in a physical dimension. Not in a political one obviously :piss:
