Ah I thought that one didn't count towards the 100%.

Finally playing through this new content and I really like it. Seems like a great addition.

I'm also surprised at how much I enjoy Akechi in the new semester. I didn't really like him in the vanilla content even the new social link stuff. Having his true self be on display instead makes him much more enjoyable.

They do not, but social stats do. So assuming you max your stats out in the first playthrough, you don't need to waste any time slots studying/eating burgers/etc and can focus solely on social links.

Whew, beat Okumura on Hard (party was Morgana/Makoto/Yusuke, swapped Makoto out for Ann for the big robot for Tarunda). Made use of the elemental items for Baton Passing for big Maeiga damage at the end for the green robots after using Marakunda. For the big robot, Morgana Baton Passed after Miracle Punch to Yusuke for big damage since they can be critted.

That's bad, you need him and Akechi at Rank 8 to unlock the bonus dungeon. Are you sure you won't be able to do it? The last two ranks for both are free.

I'm at rank 7 right now and it's the 23rd. I had been visiting Chihaya nonstop early on to brute-force it and then the game decides "Hey know what would be great? We're taking away all control of your character for the next two weeks, hope you like exams and culture festivals!"

He doesn't leave until November 18th, you can still do it. I was wrong about only needing rank 8, you'll need 9 for him and 8 for Akechi, but it's completely doable.

Yeah it's kind of a pain but it's actually fun that a boss in the middle of the story is challenging, since usually in Persona games you just start steamrolling from the 3rd or 4th dungeons on. I do think it could use a tiny bit of tweaking, since you need Dekaja on Ann or Joker to take them down in one assault if you don't have the equivalent item. Joker being the only source of (Ma)Rakunda is also a bit annoying unless you've taken Futaba to the Jazz Club and got a lucky roll.

Anyway, started the Casino and Confidants are in a good shape. I actually don't remember finishing Makoto's SL so late, since she's still only on Rank 7 for me, but I guess the Charm requirement locked me out for longer than I'd expected. But most of the Night time links are chugging along and I'm just about at the point where they'll all need help in Mementos, so I can knock them out in one swoop.

I've now gotten further into P5R than I've ever gotten in P5, and I'm starting to feel overwhelmed by choices a little bit? I'm trying to keep reasonably well balanced but there's always so many things to choose from every day that I have occasionally been paralyzed into indecision. I have a number of confidants up to level 4-5 in mid-June (just got asked by Makoto to take down our next target) but most of my stats are 2-3. I know there are confidants you have to max out or close enough by Oct? but I also know there are potentially stat checks I need to be worried about. I was trying to avoid using a guide and not worry so much about min-maxing but I also don't want to screw things up for myself. Any crucial non-super spoilery advice that might help me out with this? I know I see people complain in this thread about hanging out with confidants when you know it's not going to increase your bond, but is it occasionally necessary? It doesn't seem like there's enough extra bonuses to get them all to that point without the occasional hangout session not related to bond increase.

Tia for any advice y'all veterans can offer.

Calm down, you have enough time. Just focus on the confidants you like or that seem like they give good abilities. 2-3 for stats seems good for June. Some confidants have ridiculously high stat checks for when you unlock them (Hanged Man, Priestess), just ignore them until you get the stats.

You probably already know this, but always bring a Persona of the matching arcana to confidant events. It gives you additional points to their link. The exceptions are plot-based links (like Magician), and Moon and Sun who always rank up, no matter which answers you pick.

Fortune (should unlock during the summer) gives you an ability to buy a relationship boost for one confidant per day without spending time. This is really good. She also has a number of other useful abilities, so focus on her. You do need 100k and a Mementos trip to get her started.
Temperance gives you additional timeslots to boost your stats in, and at max rank allows you to go out and do stuff after visiting Palaces/Mementos.
If you're hurting for money, Sun gives you the ability to ask for more money during negotiation. You should be able to get that at this point.

Later, Star gives you additional money if you defeat an enemy in one turn. Fortune has an ability that gives you more money if you defeat an enemy with an all-out attack. Chariot gives you the ability to insta-kill any enemy with a low enough level, which counts as an all-out-attack.

You'll want Councillor at Rank 9 and Justice at Rank 8 by November 18th. Faith needs to be at Rank 5 by the end of December. Sun also becomes unavailable at either November or December, not entirely sure when.

Almost every non-party member confidant has a Mementos quest, usually around Rank 8. Collect several of them before you go to Mementos.

It kind of comes with the territory. All the P5 kids have some history of tragedy or abuse, so they have built in motivation in their development. The P4 kids are all relatively normal (excluding Rise and Naoto) and have generally good home lives, so they are usually focused on fairly basic teenage stuff.

Finished Palace 6 and actually almost done with Confidants. Outside of the story links and Empress (who's at Rank 4), everyone else is finished or at Ranks 8/9 (Hermit, Devil, Fortune, Hanged, Star, Tower). I'm guessing I'll have quite a bit of free time actually once I mop up the night links, so it'll just be video games, coffee and jazz. Royal really did make maximizing this stuff easier (I remember in my first playthrough of the base game the only non-party links I had finished by the end were Hierophant, Death, Hanged Man, Sun and Tower).

So whose the best romance in P5R? I only played up to the third palace in the original game and am starting over in Royal. Ann was going to be my waifu in the first game but I never really got that far. Hows the new chick? Is she a good romance option? I don't care about mary sues or any of that stuff, it's a silly anime game, I just want to see some good content without romancing a child (literal or otherwise) or the teacher.

Another question...WTF is there still no Eternal Punishment PSP in English? The game on PSP exists, and the English script exists in the PSone version. How hard could it be to mash those two together? It'd absolutely outsell the little bit of effort it'd take to use the original Playstation's English port into the already existing Japanese PSP port. Why why why?

Thanks for listening!

'Best' is going to always be very subjective.

Honestly all of them are fine depending on who you like, just don't romance your little sister surrogate.

I've personally done Ann and Haru, but I guess if I ever gave the game a fourth(?) go I might try Kasumi. Or just look it up online becaseu I don't know if I have another 80+ hours after I'm done with this first run.

Honestly just go with your gut and romance whoever you find interesting as a character. Nobody is really a "better" option over another mechanically because all the romances have the same problem: once you max out your waifu's social link there's really not much of anything to do with them besides some pre-scripted story events. You can take them on dates but they're all pretty generic with only minor dialogue changes, and they ultimately just waste valuable timeslots. Royal pushes Yoshizawa on your pretty hard as the "canon" love interest, and she's... fine? I think her social link is pretty weak. You also can't actually choose to romance her until well into January, which means a) it barely has time to breathe before the game ends, and b) she doesn't have a Christmas event like every other girl.

If you want to meet all the romance options before settling on somebody, then here's a list of them by arcana: Lovers, Priestess, Hermit, Empress, Temperance, Devil, Death, Fortune, Faith, Star. As long as you're not completely ignoring the optional ones, you should have meet all of them by the fifth palace.

“Best” is a subjective idea. One that lead to the endless Waifu Wars with creepy obsessive nerds online. However, there are two who are most notable: Makoto and Yoshizawa.

Prior to Royal, Makoto was considered the closest thing to a “canon” love interest given her importance to the plot and a few scenes with her that nobody else got. Not to mention her confidant was all about being her pretend boyfriend before making it official. She also gets scenes in the dancing spinoff where the characters like Ann, Futaba, and even Ryuji get excited when Joker picks flirting options with Makoto that nobody else gets.

As said earlier, Royal really pushes the new character, Yoshizawa on the player despite the fact that she isn’t able to be romanced until the new semester. Long after all the scenes with the others that were in the base game.
She’s inoffensive and her backstory is considered well done, but that’s about all I can say for her. Her personality is boring, she has no interaction with the team, and she’s only with you for a very brief time. Even during the period she’s actually important, she’s kind of unnecessary to the events short of providing a bit of context. She gets a lot of scenes outside her actual confidant that tick off as many anime romance tropes as they can and she spends the game fawning over Joker at every opportunity.

Ann was the first link I maxed in royal just coincidentally and I know that "You have the others" isn't as brutal as the english translation lends it to be but I will never not pick that option because it's the funniest response to someone being open and vulnerable to you that could possibly be written

A third time slot would be great. Say it was restricted in some manner, like only being able to do some basic chore like laundry or one of the quicker social stat activities. Keep it open on all but the most plot critical days so we could always have something going on and not intrude on the social links/confidants. It would lessen a lot of stress that comes from the days you can’t hang out with anyone and encourage you to do things like darts and the like. As opposed to now when every moment you aren’t immediately advancing something feel less like a waste.
