It's clunky but getting that link from your email or the support system and pasting it into your client we browser works for me

I just have it favorited in my primary browser and copy paste it

People, let's be serious for a second here.

Please, please do not sleep on Golem Creation Kit.

You're an apprentice wizard who, while his master is away from the tower, is beset by a typical mob of torch-and-pitchfork villagers. Your only defense is grabbing pieces of the scenery, from forests to birdsong, to create golems that'll scare them off. It tests a combination of pattern recognition (of course that didn't work, you sent a wood golem up against a woodcutter!) and resource management (oh god, am I really running out of stone? what can I use instead... fire?).

On top of that, the writing is charming, funny and clever, occasionally managing to get even poignant.

I'm extremely serious. Give it a shot.

Did they fix this up? I bought it ages ago on Steam and it was fun but a glitchy mess and I never finished it.

Say, has anyone tried Airship: Conquer the Skies? It looks interesting but I fear it could be the kind of game that gets complex to the point of unplayability.

Let's talk about where you're going.
Just finished Night in the Woods and boy - that certainly went a direction I wasn't in any way expecting. I'm not particularly sure if I liked it or not. Clearly the writers put a lot of love and care into it, so I have to at least respect it for that.

It's not too crazy. You build ships, trying to balance out offense, defense, cost, and weight. When you fight the gunners will fire on their own--you just have to point & click to move the ship, and occasionally press a button to about-face or execute special commands like boarding.

The Saga

Been playing some Double Cross. Feels, and looks, kinda like a Wayforward game, which is probably not a coincidence given that it's by the same developers who made Runbow and Shantae was a guest character in that game. Definitely got some Mega Man Zero/ZX influence, too. Worth a try if you're into those kinds of games!

Played some lousy games and a good one. I do not recommend Roguescape, Pyramid, Eizoku, and especially MonGirl Tile (the search for a decent Triple Triad clone has led me down a dark path).

On the other hand PARANOIHELL has a bad title but is a good ~2 hour survival horror game with multiple endings. You play as a bartender trying to get home to her girlfriend after being menaced by a stalker, and learn very soon that police will never help you. You can hide in closets and dumpsters but will have to fight sooner or later. Combat is purposefully clunky; you have to wind up to strike and your weapons will break, but at least on normal difficulty you won't be left entirely out of options and the enemies use the same charged attacks as you (watch for the glint) so it never feels unfair. The pixel art can be goofy and your character kind of wobbles along, but it still manages to have a tense atmosphere due to a narrow field of view (you can zoom out when stationary), good sound design, and the effective spacing of items and enemies. You'll have to do some inventory management and sprinting should have been the default (it's still plodding) but I enjoyed this one.

A lot of people like King of Dragon Pass on this forum, so I'm going to recommend Golden Treasure: The Great Green which is clearly an otherkin game, but is heavily inspired by KoDP.

It takes a very Gloranthan approach to it's lore, if you liked the interactions with other cultures in KODP and the animist aspects, there's a lot to like about this game.

The gameplay is basically Long Live the Queen, make choices, raise stats to be more successful at the choices you make, then make more choices. There's a lot of choices to make.

There's some janky parts but I really enjoyed it.

It's not a town management game like KODP, but it's sequel Hierophant will be:

Oh wow, I played a demo of this a while back and forgot the name of it, and had always wanted to play more. I had no idea it was in this bundle. I liked it a lot because it was both good and a bit too try-hard dark, but in a way where it seemed like the creator knew that the try-hard parts were flawed, so it circled back into being enjoyable. Interesting that it's otherkin, I really don't know much about that or furry communities because I was repelled by them being completely Not My Thing, but I am interested in depictions by artists who, how do I say, are exploring the imperfections of their adolescence and/or young adulthood and are looking back at it through an older and more comfortably self-expressive lens.

:actually:
Most of the time, anyway.

ETA: Also, please send help: I've played 30 minutes of Village Monsters, and I'm afraid it might end up being love at first sight. It's definitely a game that is My Thing and I could end up buying it on Steam to support the Dev, and recommending/gifting to my friends who love Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley.

There are three main endings (some minor details can change).

Though to be fair one ending is more of an "incomplete" ending because it's what you get for beating the game without taking care of all the bosses.

I get the impulse for such a thing if you bought it, especially given how annoying it is to add each game to your account, but itch.io specifically noted they're adding that option.

Otherwise you're just sort of asking to pirate a bunch of stuff that was $5 last week and is back to normal prices.

Oh, one more.

10-in-1 Game-A-Week Bundle! is 10 very simple games, many of which are really just tech demos, and not really worth the bother. They are: Drifting Through Time is a time trials game where time stops when you're drifting, which is an excellent idea, but not developed enough; Dog Ownership Simulation is just a spinning cube with a dog face; Chillin' Bayside is a physics toy, Paint The Town Red is a pull-back-and-launch physics game which is fun enough but has no goal, RONG is a Pong game played in a circle where you essentially bat the ball to yourself which is another underdeveloped good idea, Hatventure Game is three platforms, two hats and no gameplay, Pineapple Pipeline is a very simple half pipe skateboarding game where you can't win or bail, Tandem Toobs, Spider Playground and Beach Bird Volleyball are gameless prototypes, and Pullback Car is a weird racing game which tries to simulate one of those pull-back-and-charge cars by having you turn your mouse upside down and rev it against the desk in order to turn the mousewheel.

Some of the levels are a little glitchy, and it crashed a few times for me, but overall the bundle was worth the experience of that game alone.

Puzzling my way through the different areas was very rewarding. I think I found a couple of solutions that the developers didn't plan on -- usually accompanied by multiple alarms or some very sketchy jumping/falling that probably wasn't intended. It was a blast.

If you haven't tried the game yet, I heartily recommend it.

Clarste posted:

Personally
I thought the story was going to be that the the whole town was going to fall apart and force everyone to move away and there was going to be this big bittersweet party with Bea, Gregg and Angus and the whole town having farewell to each other bash one last "Night in the Woods" , and then having an epilogue where you play as each person after they have become established in their new place. Using that strong routine loop that was established for emotional impact with fund Ng out about their new lives based molding on choices you made in the early game.

Alternatively I was thinking that the cosmic horror was going to be some sort of "town is on loop, everyone is unaware they have lived tens of lives prior" , Mae's inability to mature kind of having implications there. And the graveyard with Bea was pointing in that direction I felt, talking about long lives and short lives etc . Following on , the hand moving grab mechanic thing was so great I thought not was going to be leveraged in some way to like suggest a cosmic horror taking control, or that you were controlling something else. Mae's arm poking an arm that moved in such a funny but spoopy way was really good

The death cult could have worked if the story was more about sacrifices that had to be made, like if the reason Mae came back was some terrible hazing ritual where she had to kill a small animal or something, atleast there would be a connection

Night in the Woods is magical realism, which throws off both people who think it's pure slice-of-life AND people who think it's a high-concept supernatural mystery.

I love the game to death, it's one of the best games I played last decade, but I can totally see how someone might not quite get what it's going for, since there are vanishingly few magical realist narrative games out there -- I think there's Kentucky Route Zero, maybe Life is Strange, but that's about it.

Opened my eyes.
I wouldn't really call LiS magical realism; at least to me, that's supposed to be a relatively grounded setting where occasional fantastic elements are present but they are taken at face value.

The Zero Escape would be my go-to reference, they tread the "did this really happen?" line pretty well.
