shin_lao 1 hour ago [–] I think it will make sense when cities will have a better infrastructure for targeted deliveries. I'm thinking routes for drones and clear delivery spots. Would not be surprised 30y from now most homes won't have kitchen anymore. You'll have an access where a drone can come in an deliver whatever you ordered.

LatteLazy 7 minutes ago [–] Maybe I am misunderstanding but... Why does a community need a moral stance on external issues? If everyone is there to do/learn/advance machine learning, isn't that the end of it? It isn't their purpose to engage with Chinese or other issues. I say this as someone always a bit frustrated that HN and Reddit etc are very US centric. reply

echelon 13 hours ago [–] While many Redditors are changing their "avatar" to dancing rainbow cockroaches, I had the idea to set mine to the Digg logo as an act of protest. I'm hoping it catches on. I suppose Reddit's new userbase may not even know what that means. Why the hell do we need avatars on Reddit anyway? Most of them are animated, strobing distractions. Reddit has jumped the shark. If there weren't significant opportunity cost, I'd happily work on a replacement. It's become a low-signal, high-noise ad-laden dumpster fire. Advertising is eating the Internet alive. I loving hate it. reply (note: this was the top comment out of 400+ for the submission)

I can imagine Reddit having a particularly coke-headed Chief Growth Officer just because of how loving obnoxious every single aspect of an inbound interaction with their absolute disastrous shitfire of a website is. You can't even read a thread easily, it goes out of its way to try to DRIVE ENGAGEMENT elsewhere in their site gently caress!! i hate reddit!!! it loving sucks folks!!!!!

HN is advertising and marketing for a VC fund. HN posters are commenting on something barely above "YOU WONT BELIEVE HOW SHE LOOKS NOW" clickbait in the general scheme of things.

beep boop having children is an epic opsec fail walrus01 11 minutes ago [–] I'm honestly suspicious of anyone that posts photos of their young children on public social media. It shows poor judgment and security/privacy precautions. I think the point of this post was that they're trying to show that somebody who publicly demonstrates a commitment to their family, vs full time dedication to career, will be offered fewer senior roles. But I see it from a different perspective. How would you feel as a 14 or 16 year old teenager someday in the future knowing that your parents had posted hundreds, or possibly thousands of photos of you from birth up to early teenage years all over the internet with no privacy precautions whatsoever? I think at least some of us are fortunate enough to have grown up in the time period before widespread full-saturation use of camera phones, and parents who take pictures of literally everything and share it publicly as widely as possible.
