Wow I really should have chosen to go to Riot Fest instead of the MCR show in Detroit.

I could have been able to see MCR, Smashing Pumpkins (another favorite of mine), and Thursday all in one event.

I've been loving Exhalants and the one album they have on Spotify. Tried to get some merch but it's all sold out :(

Any similar bands? This poo poo has the right mix of melody/fuzz/aggression that I love

That band just sounds like shellac, especially the vocals. Look for bands that sound like shellac. You can try shoppers, perfect pussy, a-frames, pissed jeans, sievehead, aids wolf, young widows' early stuff (old wounds), vaginors, eel, Metz, idk there's a lot that kinda hit that sweet spot of noisey and catchy, some of that may be more noisey than catchy.

Smashing pumpkins at an outdoor festival in 2021 sounds awful and I think you'll be disappointed.

I dunno if anyone else here has been patiently awaiting the return of mid-2000's dance punk like I have, but this new release from NC punks ISS is really doing it for me. Like early Liars but sassier and a little dancier.

Dang that first track’s guitar is Crass as heck. The “hidden track” has the exact same bassline as Rudimentary Peni’s “Nothing but a Nightmare” as well.

I wasn’t aware early Liars was dancey. I had only heard Drums Not Dead which feels a lot more like This Heat than anything else.

Edit: I just listened to it again and they actually have that clip from “I heard they suck live” where they cover Nothing but a Nightmare so this all checks out!!

"They Threw Us In A Trench..." is pretty dancey. They did go a lot more krautrock for a while, weird electronic stuff for a while too. Liars kick rear end.

This MAY not be the right spot but, it's say EMO right there in the title so...
I'm listening to the first Dashboard Confessional albums over and over while I stay up all night drinking coffee and being not sad and writing computer codes. Is there anything else with that atmosphere to be recommended?
I remember listening to Circa Survive - Juturna a lot way back in my emo days. I know it had a few acoustic tracks. What are the acoustic emo bangers?

Juturna's such a good album. Acoustic is not really something I associate Circa Survive with though.

I saw the Ataris a long time ago, they did a set in a church. Everyone was sitting on the floor because no chairs. There probably weren't 50 people there. They sold a little acoustic cd at the merch stand, I wish I could find that!

Waaaaay back in 2007, I saw a band from Orange County called Takota supporting Bullets And Octane on their UK tour. I bought their debut album (which sadly ended up being their ONLY album) and fell in love in a BIG way.

It was produced by Brandon Saller (of Atreyu) and seriously, every single track on it is great. I just wish they'd stuck around, their music is on YouTube but there appears to be very little information about what happened to them.

Most of the band went on to be Beta Wolf, a lot of the songs for the second album went on their first releases. Not sure what happened after that though.

I have been curating a playlist of my faves for about 5 years, it's like 4 hours long. It's a weird list because so many bands can sound different distilling their song down to just a voice and a guitar (and maybe some light accompaniment). Here's a couple:

I've been out of the loop on new good bands or music since 2016, but I was YouTubing and found this dude and his weird rap/rock 3-piece that seemed like... kinda fine? My brother and I are musicians and love hardcore and emo stuff but find that the new stuff never comes anywhere close to the classics. Anyways he does solo versions of his music where they are more like "classic" emo songs from the early 2000's and they are completely different and I think very pretty.

We have been totally obsessed with this dudes solo videos for the last week. A lot of hooky little ear worms. I guess they've made music with dashboard and a couple of other major heads in the scene, so they were probably bigger than we thought, but we feel like pretty enfranchised emo kids and had never heard of this until like a week ago.

Was it ever?? I always hate it at small shows when it’s just one drunk guy going too hard, but then I also love seeing the camaraderie form amongst participants.

I’m a solo rocking out guy. This captures what I miss about shows, also is one of my fave videos of me doing my thing at a show: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxk70Bjh3e1/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
