Hell yeah that's the punk scene I remember. I listen to a lot of folk punk now like Ramshackle Glory and Mischief Brew. Same gently caress the government theme with more acoustic.

Yeah the 90's were crazy, I recently discovered Good Clean Fun, an 'ironic' (;)) straight edge band with some good hooks. Here they are denouncing the ice cream man:

Nice
Also as someone who is a Pistols fan I completely agree with your take on them. Still love to crank Bodies and Belsen was a Gas. So glad you guys mentioned Crass and Oi Polloi. Also anyone who says Green Day or Blink182 is punk make me a little sad.

DapperDraculaDeer posted:

In the early 2000s Dallas actually had a pretty decent punk scene going in Deep Ellum. A lot of bands would stop off on their way to Austin or while going coast to coast. I even got see some of the older past their prime bands like The Cramps and Stiff Little Fingers. The guys from Stiff Little Fingers were really bitchy on stage and threatened to storm off twice, and watching Lux Interior encourage a crowd of like 50 people to "tear the place apart" on a Thursday night was kind of sad. It was still cool to see those guys play. I still regret missing The Addicts when they passed through.

Dallas Texas had a punk scene? Never would have guessed although I heard Al Jourgensen from Ministry had a psychobilly/country band called Buck Satan and the 666shooters. I saw the Cramps twice... once on one of their very last shows. Great band that was so much fun and made me wish I was older and could have seen them in their prime. Lux died not even two years later and it was obvious he wasn't well but still gave it all. Also saw Stiff Little Fingers. Liked them but someone threw a beer at them and the lead singer cursed whomever did it out and dared him to come up so he could beat them. I was amused as the guy was 50 at the time but I was fairly sure he could carry out the threat. I try and see any old school band that pops up. A decade ago? Maybe? Penelope Houston (of the Avengers) had a show and she did alright (except for Paint it Black) while persistently hitting on the 21 year old guitarist who was not feeling it. Also saw Bad Brains another time and the lead guy HR (who is deffo out of his gourd) came up to me afterwards, talked for a second and walked off with my joint. Nobody believes me as I was hosed up but I swear it's true.

Shocked that nobody posted the Exploited. The gently caress? gently caress the System was my intro to them (and punk really) and helped shape my teens. Got to see that show at the same time and it was one of the most intense shows I have ever been to. I got to mosh and some people actually wanted encouraged headbutting, which I was a fan of at the time. Still would be but a guy in his 30s headbutting people is just considered a bit gauche. Still ok to headbutt nazis while drunk right? If not then I will stay wrong. I also find even the word headbutt a little funny. Headbutt. Heeehee.

Also bear in mind this was before keys and synths got actually compact and affordable. A bunch of skinny sf punks had to lug around giant Hammond organs for their unsigned band that never seemed to actually finish any demos. Pretty much all of their posthumous collections are just two live sets, one from the whisky and the other mabuhay gardens

I don't think anyone knows where those demos are from, let alone any surviving band members lol. On the In a Better World comp they're listed as "demos 77 to 78?"

Special interest loving rules. True story though, when I saw them in Toronto a friend of mine got roofied during their set and we were all sitting on some raised seats with her trying to figure out what was up because she just started nodding off all of a sudden, and the singer noticed and yelled at her for falling asleep during their set. Kind of a bummer considering the circumstances, but the singer couldn't have known what was up either so w/e.

oh man that is a bummer of an experience. before the pandemic, i would still go to occasional shows, but i always feel too old. i would def feel too old for special interest. ill just continue to be that old guy who listens to noisy racket that most people hate from the comfort of my own home.

i could go on and on about 80s and 90s stuff but id rather see newer stuffposted. like ive also gotten into cold meat recently. i wouldnt call them innovative or anything but something about the lead singers voice is great.
