Well this isn't exactly how the league planned on celebrating their 25th anniversary, now is it? Stupid global pandemic. Anywho, welcome to the MLS Is Back Gameday Thread. For those of who haven't been following along/need a refresher: Each of the 26 teams in the league will be competing in a World Cup-style tournament, all taking place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida, meaning the teams are basically in their own bubble city. There will be a group stage where teams play 3 games, which do count towards the regular season, followed by a 16 team knockout. The winner gets a $1.1 million prize as well as the CCL spot that would normally go to the non-Supporters' Shield conference winner. Most matches will air on ESPN in the US, with a few on FS1 and a smattering on Univision Deports/Twitter. There's certainly nothing that can go wrong with this pl- ...Florida has seen one of the biggest spikes in this country?... ...and lots of players are opting out of this tourney, including last year's MVP?... ...and games are getting postponed because of teams arriving late partially due to positive tests?... ...and the league had to kick Dallas out of the tourney entirely because 10 of their players/staff tested positive after arriving in Florida?... ...and the same might happen to Nashville...? ...and this kicks off TOMORROW?!?!?! Truly the Mickey Mouse tournament that our Mickey Mouse league deserves. Anyway, assuming this poo poo does actually happen, Orlando and Miami will be the opening match, July 8th at 8PM ET on ESPN. I'd be amazed if this doesn't get scrapped entirely by the beginning next week, but MLS gotta MLS. Groups, for the time being Group A Orlando Miami NYCFC Philadelphia Group B Seattle Chicago Vancouver San Jose Group C Toronto New England Montreal DC Group D RSL SKC Colorado Minnesota Group E Atlanta Cincinnati NYRB Columbus Group F LAFC LAG Houston Portland Assuming this poo poo makes it to the knockouts before getting cancelled, the top 2 teams from each group and the 4 best 3rd place teams will be in a 16 team bracket. Seriously though, who could've possibly foreseen that the tourney would get all FUBAR right from the start? whypick1 fucked around with this message at 20:05 on Jul 9, 2020 |

It's hosed up but I can't help but admit I'm a little excited for this. Yea it will be a clusterfuck and more teams will probably drop out, but I goddamn miss some MLS. Go Crew.

I had gotten a little excited for this, but recent events have just sapped the enthusiasm for me. Which sucks, because the Fire has/had a chance to do decent with that schedule.

Got the Miami local coverage on, and nothing makes me happier than seeing Fernando Fiore on our panel. E: also love the wacky game times which means I get to us play at 9am on a Tuesday when I’m at work, and 10:30pm on a Sunday when I’m planning on going to bed. Ah that World Cup feeling despite living in the timezone. EL BROMANCE fucked around with this message at 00:35 on Jul 9, 2020 |

I'm wondering if they are still going to do the national anthem, or actually have kickoff on time for once.

They've already said no national anthem during the tourney. Still don't expect them to kick off on time though.

https://twitter.com/samstejskal/status/1281010271050399745 Nashville's definitely getting the boot. God I've missed MLS. edit; and according to Twellman, the only players who are positive in the bubble are Nashville's at this point.
