The music, the iconic opening shot, the sound design, the cars, the colors, the everything. Then of course the film turned out to be just as amazing.

I liked that one, but it was the teaser that sold me. I love the music.

Say Watt?

It's something that doesn't seem special at all anymore but the first teaser for Spider-Man (the one that got pulled after 9/11) had brief snippets of him webswinging at the end that blew my mind.

Love that teaser.

But if we're talking "loving" teasers this is the only teaser that made me weep when I saw it. Like openly crying in the theater that it was happening.

I remember downloading and re-watching the teaser repeatedly just for that last part where the assembled group is crossing over the mountain - trying to match the actor to the character they were playing. I believe I got most of them right, except I had flipped Aragorn and Boromir.

In my defense, the Aragorn in the book is portrayed slightly more "kingly" than in the film, and Viggo Mortensen's bedraggled look made me think they were making Boromir look more like the weasel that he is!

Man, Mad Max, for how awesome those trailers are, was even better than the trailers.

What are some other examples of awesome trailers that had even better movies? We always talk about awesome movies that are let downs... but what's the opposite?

Shame that he got saddled with pretty subpar outings in the cowl, I always thought Affleck was a pretty solid pick for grizzled older Batman. Between that and whatever personal stuff he's dealing with I can't blame him for bailing.

The real loss is no more Jeremy Irons as Alfred though.

Edit: I thought Affleck wore lifts to match up with Cavill, but apparently Affleck is the taller of the two by a fair margin (6'4 to 6'1). He always struck me as a stockier, more compact guy for some reason.

Yeah, whenever I talk to people who say they were let down by Matrix 3, I'm so confused. I actually didn't hate Matrix 3, because my expectations were absolutely nothing after Matrix 2. I almost didn't even see 3 in the theater, and only did a few weeks after it came out because a friend and I had nothing to do one Tuesday night and figured, "Eh, why the gently caress not." We had a fun enough time watching mech warriors and a Dragon Ball fight in the rain at the end that I couldn't hate it. 2 was the one that had the hope that I saw on opening night, and was just a big ball of nothing.

I'll never forget sitting in the theater for 2, with all these Matrix super fans losing their minds with the movie about to begin, and my friend turns to me and jokingly says, "Can you imagine if it sucks?" And then...the movie started. (Well, 20 minutes of trailers started, but you know what I mean.)

I won’t deny enjoying Matrix Reloaded when it came out. It was a totally different ride than the first movie, but it was just 2 hours of throwing ideas and asking questions out there and I liked that.

Then Revolutions came out and it just felt like every answer was worse than what you came up with when talking about it with friends in the 6 months between movies.

It's one of my favorite movies of all time and easily the best western I've ever seen. It's so goddamned good. A near 3 hour slow burn shot by Roger Deakins and filled with just top notch acting performances all around.

And the "burly brawl" (no idea why it's called that), where the stage of CGI we were at made everyone look as rubbery as Stretch Armstrong. It has the double whammy of having looked bad then AND aging poorly. Pointless action scene that looks bad, nothing is accomplished, and is ended when our hero literally just flies away, which he could have done at the beginning of the fight and nothing would have been different.

Groovelord Neato
Dec 6, 2014

The Burly Brawl is especially weird is you coulda made it look just as cool using only face replacement there was no reason to go full CGI.

Also the terrible shot from above the trailer puts a damper on the highway chase.
