It was adapted from a visual novel, which of course has several possible ending, and they solved the "which girl wins?" problem by giving each girl her own four-episode arc. that's not how you spell kaoru! tsukasa's good though, definitely second place.

It's the To Love Ru mangaka, so unless he's going to swerve into a battle manga he's likely to make it as porny as you can get in Weekly Jump. I actually think though it may not go as hard as To Love Ru because I can't remember the last Weekly Jump manga to have actual uncensored full frontal in it which To Love Ru had.

I hope they eventually release the prequel, sequels, and spin off, even if I have to pay for them.

There's a two volume prequel named Shaman King Zero, a sequel Shaman King Flowers that's about 6-8 volumes before the magazine it was in was canceled, then a currently running sequel to that named Shaman King Superstar and spin off Shaman King Red Crimson that ended recently. I think a new spin off is starting soon too.

At what point in the manga does the original anime stop at (or at least I heard it didn’t go all the way through)?

Flowers did what Boruto did like 6 years before Boruto. I think it even has a similar main conflict in the first volume at least, where the kid was not as good with Shaman stuff as he felt he should be, and was using tricks to get around it? It's been years since I read the opening chapters, I might be going crazy.

KittyEmpress posted:Flowers did what Boruto did like 6 years before Boruto. I think it even has a similar main conflict in the first volume at least, where the kid was not as good with Shaman stuff as he felt he should be, and was using tricks to get around it? Flowers is filled with problems that are the result of a sequel that never needed to happen, and Takei's insistence on keeping the parts of shaman king that weren't the series strength. Mostly the battle shonen trappings and tournament backdrop. It's revealed that Hao isn't the unanimous Shaman king but rather every previous king still exists and has the right to veto decisions made by the current king. Which makes no sense since Hao had previously killed everyone on the planet when he got in power but that gets handwaved. Anywho, they aren't too pleased that he's backing a specific family and don't care for his attitude either. Hana himself as a protagonist is annoying by design. An entitled little brat with no charisma of his own, which makes sense given how he grew up being spoiled a lot and knew his family were OP. But he's also hard carried by the fact that his uncle can revive him on a whim and he also has a similar Oni manifestation ability as a result of something I can't quite remember. So whenever he makes too big a mistake he just gets pulled out of the fire. By the way, Yoh and Anna are dead. Iron Maiden too because the story has to really get rid of all the god-class shamans to make the conflict work. The main antagonists themselves are the previous shaman king symbolized by a walking illuminati mascot and his chosen fighter, a guy who uses cards to stop time and other effects. The whole thing boiled down to another competition (The Flowers of Maize) between the previous shaman kings to decide if Hao stays in power or if one of them can re-take the throne so everyone would be putting up their representative teams. The best thing about the entire clusterfuck of a series is the Kamikazee pilot Hana manages to land as his spirit partner. I guess the Horo Horo spinoff is neat if only for the hardboiled feel to it but that also covers how Jeanne got killed and it's just boring to see previously established characters killed off by new people I'm not interested in at all. At least we're getting an english release of the original series, that will be the best thing to come out of this whole deal.

Brought To You By posted:Flowers "ended" but was rebranded as Superstar which is a direct continuation. I think it was a magazine change. Ah, are any of the manga spinoffs any good then? Also, at what point in the original run of the manga did the anime abandon the story entirely and go in its own direction ala the first FMA anime? Or is this a case where the two adaptions are so different from one another that you might as well just start the manga version from scratch?

Speaking of which, has there been any news on the new anime they announced a while back (like a release date or whether or not it’ll be a FMA: Brotherhood/Sailor Moon Crystal style remake that sticks closer to the manga version)?

Oh, I missed this was a thing and I was re-reading Kekkaishi purely because of the last Birdmen chapter continuing Yellow's trend of having bad parents who are at peace with leaving their family high and dry to go do their own thing. I'd say this is a sign of Birdmen finally getting an adaptation but they purged everything. But kept Gantz

the rationale is that everything they got rid of is old stuff, either completed or abandoned projects. except they pumped out a bunch of birdmen chapters over the past month.
