There are two directions you can take: You can buy a Keeley modded DS1 and plug it into a Sovtek or something and worry about mic placement in relation to your cabinet and what kind of wood it is made out of... Or you can plug your guitar into a Danelectro $20 OD pedal with all of the knobs dimed and go straight into the board.

I feel like they both have merit and reside in me and I am constantly unsure of which one to go with.

Same... kinda. i do mostly synth stuff at the moment but when i play punk I like it to be noisy as gently caress PUNKKKKK. but I have no drummer atm and trying to program punk drums sucks loving rear end. so Im making drone odysseys and doing weird covers etc.

Id love to have him revisit this list and see how he thinks its stood the test of time. His NY choices are really weird to me. Blood Sweat and No Tears at #16 is insane-the 7 was better but even that should barely make the list, and Prong, Straight Ahead and Leeway are on there but no Urban Waste or Reagan Youth.

Thats all the stuff I grew up loving but in retrospect there was much better music out there.

i'm ok with a lot of the exclusions, i feel like a lot of the best stuff i'd think were missing from the list were demos or only got posthumously released. e.g. i want outburst on there, but the demo > miles to go. hell even nyhoods only ever released cassettes.

that first song slaps lol

SOIA being that high on the list might just be from when the list was compiled - i know pushead loves jocky hardcore (see: glue-step) but that album was huge when it came out, less so as the years rolled on. hindsight would probaly drop that in favour juicier nyhc, and i'd rather see sheer terror's just can't hate enough over anything soia released.

https://ugritone.com/
https://www.analoguedrums.com/

both do analogue drum sample packs, ugritone i think has some self-contained stuff that can be used as VST plugins, analoguedrums needs a copy of kontakt to work good. I use analoguedrums with kontakt in fl studio and it sounds good. i have some ugritone packs but i haven't tried em yet. they're p expensive as is but when they go on sale its up to 75% off sometimes.

This is good if you just want straight up overblown input noise. I realize the band name is not very PC and I hope that none of you will take offense because I am not trying to be a jerk at all.

Also lol that I immediately knew which song you were posting after "been listening to suicide..."

Yeah Im sure thats why its up there, and Id love to see what changes he would make now, if any. I took a quick look to see if he keeps up any social media presence or anything, thinking he may have already talked about the list but didnt see anything.

Just cant hate enough is better than any sick of it all, yeah. Sheer Terror was older and kind of separate from the overall scene but soia, raw deal, breakdown, all of that seemed cool at first- once it quickly turned into wannabe gangster toughguy stuff it just went downhill fast. Somehow they still inspired a million lovely douche bands.

It was a whole generation of bands that could never surpass their first demo(s). Once they hit a studio they all ended up kinda sounding like they were just ripping each other off. SOIA never really stuck with me because they seemed so calculated in their aesthetic and approach that it came off as inauthentic, weirdly enough. Plus, I had listened to the born against radio show before I ever really gave their 80s stuff an honest listen.

No doubt, but for the folks (including myself) that aren't in the "90-99th percentile" of knowing what's up, it's a treasure trove of weird, good poo poo.
There is SO much material that's been uncovered and lauded in the last 30 years; everyone back then had sort of a limited scope.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression, its a great list and I am not that full of myself to be making GBS threads on pusheads taste, its just the nyc stuff I have personal experience with and stands out as odd to me in places. Edit: also with the help of hindsight

Im just shooting the poo poo here because why not :)

Are you guys into any of the newer Iron Lung bands (not including re-releases/distro)? A good amount of the fresh-ish groups that I have been finding have releases there - Although, as I understand it, the label head is kind of a dick.

For example, S.H.I.T:

It can't be worse than the so-called Punk Rock MBA, as soon as he oversteps his bounds of sludgy hardcore (and especially if it's not American) he basically doesn't know what he's talking about.

He did a video on NYHC and there was no Warzone

Those bands always just made songs mostly about girls and skating. If you want political, the Epitaph style is not what you want.
