Well I guess the one benefit of 2020 has been the lack of crowdkilling. In the traditional sense, at least.

It's good to do this if you appreciate the music because from on stage it's really nice to know someone is responding and also it lets self conscious people in the crowd know that it's ok to have fun and noone will judge them. Often times if I am at a show and people are playing heartfelt music even if it's maybe not my thing I will try to get up front and have fun.

I’ve actually enjoyed a lot of Michale Graves output he’s got a hell of a voice on him, I know he’s a prick but thankfully his right wing bullshit wasn’t reflected in his music unfortunately I can’t ignore his recent outbursts and response to BLM so yeah gently caress that guy.

I love this because my best friend from college came to visit over the weekend, introduced me to Pup-- I'd never heard them before-- and also bought Paper Mario being completely unaware that there's a reference in there.

They have a whole scene in Dream Daddy including a mini game where you try not to get wrecked while they play DVP. It's good.

I've listened to it like 3-4 times and it just doesn't click for me. I remember just hating the drums and vocals. If it weren't such a revered album I wouldn't even care, but maybe I should give it another listen one of these days.

Here I'll post something (completely different). I saw these guys about a year ago having never heard of them before. This 7" rules. It's so archetypical pv without feeling generic or boring? I love it.

In my restless dreams I see that town...

Flagstaff, Arizona
Jeremy, trombone(r) of We are the Union and Skatune Network has been absolutely loving killing it lately on basically all fronts (and is an extremely good and cool fellow enby) and I realized that, given their being the catalyst for my getting back into ska punk while also being pretty locked-in on the more traditional pop-punk poo poo going on in the past decade, there's a decently chance you fellow punk goons might be in a similar boat, so here's some reqs. I can't remember if I shared some of them before but they're hella good so even if I did listen again anyway.

None of these are (imo) remotely of the traditionally expected third wave/RBF/Streetlight vibe so if you're tired of people thinking that's all modern ska can be double check 'em out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo8LXwK0IK0

Los Skagaleros catapulted themselves right into being one of my favorite bands, period, after I spent some time listening to them. They absolutely loving rip in all the best ways on both the punk and ska front, and have music in both English and Spanish. They're from a southern Texas border town and a lot of their music is definitely painted by that experience and has a strong anarcho/leftist vibe. It rules.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxJ4sp7nMQY

We Are the Union's been around for a while now, but I completely missed them until recently. Definitely might fit into the sad millenial genre of pop punk (which is extremely my poo poo), and have a lot of non-single sleepers that absolutely rip.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMVMRh3zvMw

Kill Lincoln just dropped a new song for the first time in a while. DC outfit IIRC that I can't stop listening to no matter how hard I try (which is not that hard, tbh, because they're very good). Check out the linked single, if you dig it you'll dig them.

Cave state rules.

It was a long time between spazz splitting up and hearing a new pv band that had similar energy. Cave state and knuckle scraper are the two bands that did that.

I think cave state may have been the first thing I ever bought on bandcamp too

Whenever I get frustrated at how old and out of touch I am, this thread makes me feel good because I have seen like 2/3 of these bands because my queer frat in Philly functioned as a DIY venue on Penn campus. I’ve probably seen AJJ like 8 times without even trying. Best set I ever saw at Pi Lam was Pissed Jeans, but the Dead Milkmen set there was legendary. It was literally like 1,000 people in a living room.

Favorite house show was seeing Cursed in some kids loft space in 2005 or something like that. Apparently the band talked about the show quite a bit as it became quite infamous, as it was just a packed room with no light except for the drummer. Got one track on tape, but I just couldn't see poo poo.

Non Objective Portrait of Karma was probably the first song I ever heard back in the mp3 sharing days before Kazaa or whatever that wasn't bad numetal garbage. I didn't "get" it at the time but I'm still listening to it a million years later.
