May have been able to make good with the assaults, but I don't think I could have handled the embarrassment of being nibbled down by a single Light, which was bad enough in the Jag. I'm still ferociously bad, but I managed my first kill with a well placed Gauss shot last night.

Artificer posted:And don't worry. Everyone gets murdered by a light sometimes. Murdering multiple assaults as a Piranha is a right of passage. There really isn't any embarrassment to dying to most light mechs if you are an assault or heavy. If your team isn't there to help you, there is very little you can do. The best advice I can give is to either stand still and turn, or walk backward and turn if a light is shooting your butt and hope you have weapons in your arms. You turn slower if you are walking forward. Spam the help voice line, and sometimes a light may come to your aid. Edit: Or go in the discord and see if anyone is on. Having another player you can reach in voice helps a lot, and having goons play across multiple weight classes usually means you will get someone watching your back. I'm managing to to deal nearly 300 damage and not be the very first on my team to blow up the last few games. Have you gotten your cadet bonus yet? You should be able to afford a hellbringer as soon as you finish. For trial mechs, assuming you're doing the OP hellbringer build, it would be good to practice that playstyle with any laser boating mechs. Currently for trial mechs, that would be Battlemaster/Timber Wolf/Storm Crow/Phoenix Hawk

How is Mechwarrior 5 with a joystick? I know MWO its pretty much impossible with one, its not designed for it, but I was wondering if MW5 might be different?

Also playing with LRMs is pretty helpful on a personal skill level because it teaches you what kind of angles you can hit/be hit from and what kind of time frames you have for lock ons.

Haven't tried it myself but I saw options for a Hotass setup so I believe they at least gave it the minimum effort. It's a slow enough game it should be fine.

It works fine on my T16000, but I generally still prefer to have left left hand on the throttle and my right hand on the mouse. The throttle has more than enough buttons and switches to handle the controls.

It works about as well as it works in MWO. But your opponents aren't humans using mice. So it's fine.

I'm starting out again on my old account and I tend to trust these forums for advice in games. So I was curious if the "recommended mechs" section in the second post is still valid. I was trying to build the HBR-Prime as listed but the slots are different.

# ? Aug 15, 2020 19:45 |

It's still valid. In the case of the HBR, you've probably got some of the wrong omni-pods swapped in. That build requires the HBR-P right torso and HBR-A head.

There is a Windows 10 driver for them, you just have to have an adapter to plug it into a USB port. Definitely possible, though I have no idea how well it'd work for MW5.

Also the OP is somewhat outdated now. LRMs and ATMs are very strong currently so long as you get your own locks and bring a TAG/Light TAG.

Pattonesque posted:ATMs more so than LRMs, they do so much damage that they make up for the spread Yes, also they dont start having dmg falloff at 180m like LRMs do. But they do have a minimum range at 120m.

LRMs are still kinda trash. I know ATMs are strong, but if you want to build an ATM boat then you're on your own. Lock-on weapons are poo.

Yes I have more success with ATMs than LRMs by far. Guide to ATMs: 1. Bring a light tag and either ECM or active probe, light if possible. 2. Jump jet poptarting capabilities are very useful. 3. 240~ m range optimal for 3 dmg per missile. 120m minimum range. With skills, 240m optimal is extended to 272m. Base 2 dmg per missile ends at 500m. 4. Bring backup guns if you can do so without compromising your ATM capabilities. 5. UAV is really good. Get those skill nodes that let you keep lock longer after LOS is lost. Try to never be too far from your team cuz if you get rushed you will be in deep poo poo. If possible, get lock then jump up, poo poo your damage out, then drop back down. AMS will gently caress you up but you do a lot of damage and can annihilate people.

When I was actually good at playing one of my favorite 'mechs was the ATM Shadowcat. I never could carry the game or anything but it put out some very high damage on the regular.

I can vouch for this. It is my favorite too. It did feel like the shadow cat was a touch too light and couldn’t carry enough ammo to have a break out game. The mobility was entirely worth it though.

I run three different ones. Ghost Dad, Kraken and... I think just the base model? All of them rock an LBX-20/Ultra AC20 and a chunk of MRMs. I need to play with goons honestly because I'm still re-learning my positioning, but having a poo poo load of armor is kind of forgiving.

The next step is to make an fps rts, kinda like natural selection.

No joke this rts mod, combined with one for more mech customization and a better AI, has made MW5 awesome. It's still buggy and in beta but it's really fun to sit back and watch your guys go to town. You can even call in reinforcement lances and switch back to FPS to lead everyone by hitting a keybinding (and should, the AI stunt double doesn't level up apparently)! Too bad re-installing deleted my save with a billion bucks from a bugged mission though lol

Does MWO still have a separate queue for premades? I've been noticing groups in the regular queue. It's been nice to land with an organized few people every now and then. Also, just gently caress alpine peaks. I wish the game would let me vote against one map instead of voting for one.

I played MWO for the first time in years yesterday and I'm having a ball. It does have a dead game feel to it though, especially the state of faction warfare. Anyways, I'm playing the zeus a bunch and am getting a good grasp of positioning. I just wonder what I should do with the extra five tons I have if I buy the light engine version of my engine. How good right now is AMS, IS Targeting Computer, Beagle Active Probe, Command Console, and all that jazz? The fit is medium range missiles 30 and 2x AC 5, so it would benefit from ballistic speed on the IS Targeting Computer.
