More specifically, several different companies arrived at the operate at a loss to price out all of your competition stage of creating a monopoly and it isn't going very well because they all have billions of dollars of other people's money to piss away.

In their defense, they also innovated the concept of "what if we just don't follow any of the laws?" While some might say, "This is just the Al Capone business strategy," the remarkable innovation is that while this strategy almost always makes money, they've managed to still be wildly unprofitable in spite of it.
