ya know, I didn't think of that good point. even thou it's a great inconvenience to me personally, if this gets more eyes on the product that'd be pretty cool.

I do wonder when tsn will be broadcasting the shows..

I'm not making a fucking QCS thread for this but seriously can we take a harder stance on Kiwifarms freaks like this guy, Jesus Christ seriously, you used to be better at knocking these creeps down. I guess ADTRW mods aren't responsible like GBS mods are.
While I think Cody is probably the best guy in AEW to hold a "John Cena Open Challenge" gimmick it would undoubtedly be better if they had access to international talent. They don't, so Brodie Lee is put in the position where he has to win or the entire Dark Order faction are a bunch of loving losers, since they're spending time building up Archer, Cage, and MJF too who all probably have bigger upsides.

I want to live in the alternate universe where COVID never happened and Cody is also fighting rising stars from Mexico and Japan including nostalgia matches against guys like LA Park, CIMA and Juvi. Or a different different reality where Mike Bailey wasn't banned from wrestling in America.

AEW is a lot more hosed than WWE is because they were banking on open relationships with international talent wherein WWE just signed dozens of international talent and just decide not to use them well.

ITV have pretty much abandoned promoting it at all as far as I can tell. I didn’t even know we still had it, I’ve been watching it on fite the whole time because the first few episodes they put on were edited to death and missing entire matches and segments.

Their only British male on the roster was Jimmy Havoc, and most other noteworthy names in the UK scene were also pedophiles, abusers, or sex pests with the handful remaining either signed with WWE or full-time in Japan. They could've gotten Brookes & the Schadenfreude boys and Session Moth & Alpha Female as their only big name local talent. I'm sure it still would have drawn well but they probably intended on doing an EU tour as a collaboration of talent of which, there is barely any left.

NJPW sold out the Copperbox and they have significantly less in terms of advertising budget and reach. Kip was a fairly big name on the UK scene so he'll do for local talent. I know PAC hasn't been a "local" talent for a while but he's certainly a big name here. I don't think it would have been sellouts for the entire tour but they would have done well

ITV gets crappy ratings for AEW because no one wants to wait for the weekend to watch so everyone's using Fite. Acting like they wouldn't draw over here is silly. Hell, we're the only country where TNA could get sellouts.

plus im sure tony khan probably has a decent relationship with many venue management firms and wouldn't have too much trouble promoting locally. im also talking out of my rear end but they'd probably run their main supercard for the tour at craven cottage, other tenants schedule permitting.

Are they still cutting chunks out of it?

I genuinely think they’d have done better going somewhere arguably even more weird and obscure like Challenge just like TNA did, at least they advertised it.

AEW getting bumped because of the NBA reminds me of being a kid and getting pissed at the Atlanta Braves for going long and delaying WCW Saturday Night. I still hold that grudge against the Braves all these years later.

It definitely doesn't have a prime slot but a) it's also on the ITV Hub to watch for free on Demand & b) people have DVRs. And I don't think ITV4 is that obscure, it's not the 90s, people don't just watch 5 channels, people go through the menus on Freeview to see what's on where. They have a considerably better TV situation & promotion than New Japan (ie they have TV) & of course New Japan's Royal Quest show was a success despite being headlined by 2 Japanese wrestlers. The only native talent they used was ZSJ & Ospreay (the latter of whom was in the 3rd match with Robbie against Bullet Club) and the only non-NJPW regulars they used were Aussie Open. Mind when Impact was on Challenge (a less well known channel than ITV4) & would routinely do really surprisingly good house numbers.

The sort of people who would go to an AEW show in the UK are the same as those who went to Royal Quest. They are going to want to be watching Jon Moxley & Kenny Omega & Cody, not solely Britwres people. Sure, use some of them when you are here but they aren't going to be the draws.

Oh yeah it’ll definitely draw, my point was more that I don’t think being shown with a multiple day delay on a z-tier freeview channel in the worlds shittiest timeslot is going to be much of a contributing factor.

I'm a very small sample size, but I tried Dynamite for the first time back in October (must have been an early episode, just before Full Gear) specifically because I was flicking through the channels and it happened to be on ITV4. Its the first wrestling I've watched in absolutely years and it's totally grabbed me.

I should probably get Fite (and did buy Revolution through it) but for now am still watching on ITV4. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'll have discovered it through ITV and still watches even though they don't really promote it anymore.

One thing I will say though is that I usually uae ITV Hub rather than watching "live" on Friday night. That's partially because of the shifting timeslot, but mostly because of the annoying as gently caress commercials and the channel sponsors for late night Friday programming.

Imagine how many commercial breaks there are in Dynamite. Now imagine that bookending both sides of that commercial are an annoying jingle/ident for an online casino. Hearing "PlayOJO" somewhere in the region of 40 times in a 2 hour period nearly gave me a breakdown.

It's like goldy or bronzy, but made of iron.

According to Fite's COO, viewership on Fite Plus in Europe is "staggering"

quote:

"We offer a subscription called AEW Plus that's not available in the US, Canada, Germany or France but is available in the rest of the world. It's been bought in over 100 countries and initially the interest was very encouraging and it's had a steady climb. I would say it's not a rocket ship but it's a steady climb with no fall off. What gets me is that I get the numbers of people watching it live and it's quite staggering how many people are watching it live from Europe which is early in the morning. They have a strong and loyal following. The last PPV event, Revolution, was the highest-purchased event out of the six shows we've done with them? They're doing everything right at the moment. It looks really good and we're excited to see that."

I wonder what cities AEW will run when they eventually get to Canada. Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are givens and I expect they would run Winnipeg as well. It’ll be interesting to see if they try running the prairies or maritime though. WCW never bothered running those areas and never really made inroads in Canada.
