Though because they still haven't re-signed him, I'm starting to think that the Sens just hate having intelligent depth defencemen influencing the young gunz in their dressing room:

This seems kind of hosed up to release, but it’s his own family doing it so maybe it’s to raise awareness about the prevalence of fentanyl in street drugs?

This definitely came out of left field and definitely was not something I was expecting to hear about Botch. But B.C. is hitting extreme new highs in monthly overdose deaths this year, and especially over the past few months. Hopefully this release helps some more people realize just how serious the opioid crisis is, and how it kills people from all walks of life.

I think it's very courageous of the family to release that info. It shows how prevalent the opioid crisis really is and how easy it is to overdose on tainted drugs with fentanyl in them. It may end up saving someone's life.

Just out of college I had a friend who was in the midst of finishing his masters die of a heroin overdose. He had gotten prescribed opioids for a sports injury. It’s terrible.

gently caress. I'm sorry.

When I was a pre-teen I had 4 leg surgeries to correct radiation damage I got from cancer treatment as a kid. They would send me home with Tylenol 3 with codein and instruct me to take 2 every 6-8 hours or something insane, and it was enough for ~2 weeks with one refill. I weighed probably 110 lbs. It's loving unreal how much our health care system doles that poo poo out.

Pretty much every illicit drug in western Canada (and, I presume, elsewhere in North America) is tainted with appreciable quantities of fentanyl or its more powerful derivatives. Since it's fatal in microgram quantities to a naive user this is a bad thing.

Also all the opioids on the street are just straight up fentanyl. I haven't seen actual heroin show up on a drug test in at least two years.

Sorry, nothing to do with hockey, but consider it a PSA in light of Botch's family.

I feel like even post Boogaard death, we still aren't hearing or seeing enough done across all major sports when it comes to substance abuse related issues. Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died when alcohol and opiods mixed. No doubt tons of current and former athletes have chronic pain issues that they will continue to have until the day they die. I would hope that the Players Associations of the given leagues fight for holistic and long term coverage for all players.

Somebody in the comments of that RMDB article floated the idea of Laviolette as HC with Bruce Boudreau as offense and PP. Not sure he’s ready for that move but if he is, Caps is probably the best fit for him.

Boudreau has been getting press in Toronto about an assistant spot and apparently he’s not completely against the idea of being an AC if a HC spot doesn’t materialize.

quote:

“The biggest part of it is I just want to be involved in hockey and coaching in the NHL again next year," Boudreau said. "My goal is to become a head coach but the idea of being an assistant in Toronto is really intriguing. That’s because it’s Toronto.”

That was when he was asked specifically about the Leafs since word was they had reached out to the Wild for permission, but he also said he wants to win a Cup so he’d probably consider other contenders/quasi-contenders.
