Is there a more manipulative and sinister way I can revoke their title without creating heavy opinion losses or other negative effects? Someone said something about imprisoning them first to avoid the negative stuff.

I may be wrong, but I've been fabricating claims on counties I want that are controlled by others. Especially within my realm. It's worked for me that when I revoke their title, because I have a valid claim, there's no penalty except for possible rebellion. When you win that war, they are traitors and in your dungeon and you can take their title.

I guess it's like plot to revoke from CKII? I only discovered that like a month ago.

Is there any way to figure out the risks involved in having my leader fight in wars as a commander? I love the thought of him charging with the troops into battle, instead of being some old fart on a throne sending others to their deaths. But I've got no idea how to figure out how risky it is. I'm also trying to figure out how to have my son be my ward so he can learn loads of martial stuff.

Leave me alone, dad, I'm with my friends!

I'm still working with the Ireland start, I've got all but 3 counties, but that Muncher/Butt Muncher/whatever his name is just won't give up Dublin. I even called in an ally for the second attack and they attacked for a month and then just wandered away north. Then came back for a few days, just long enough to watch me get defeated.

Thanks, Navarra

Likewise got a CTD, but mine was while clicking the "convert to faith" button in observer mode so I kinda feel like I was tempting fate.

Lots of amusing shenanigans happened while observing, like Ironside's son successfully invading England and half of Spain, bulking up to 41 Learning and dying in battle at 78. Then his son, grandson and great-grandson successfully fought off a 100-year crusade and a dozen minor conflicts only to get toppled by a peasant revolt lead by Azur Hästhuvud who usurped the entire fragmented mess of a realm from them once they were at peace. Also most of India got conquered by Jain nudists from the kingdom of Ya, somehow.

I did not yet have all the territory to form the Kingdom of Ireland. Was a couple short.

Like I said, it was my first CK game, a continuation from the tutorial. I wasn't exactly playing super great.

i dunno if you can figure out the risks with a percentage or anything, but it is risky. on the character screen is 'prowess' which is their measure of being able to personally hand someone their rear end, so low prowess = more risk

you can take the chivalry tree at least in martial lifestyle if you want to be better at kicking rear end. the first perk in the tree reduces your risk of getting got in battle

for children, right click them and you can assign a guardian. it looks like each person can have two wards assigned

prisoners are now under the Court menu (f5). there is a tab at the top to switch between courtiers and prisoners

I'm going to drown! For no reason at all!

So far I've spent a good 90 minutes just watching an AI game in observer mode while I finish some work. It's nuts how fast speed 5 goes! And just choosing a baby and watching them grow up, get sick/wounded/etc. and eventually start to grey is one of the more impressive things I've seen in a game in awhile. Great job of making kids grow up to both be believable visages of their parents but also not look exactly like their siblings. It's pretty remarkable.

You don't need all the territory to form a de jure kingdom, just 51% of the counties. That's seven in Ireland.

The easiest way to do it as Murchad is to press your de jure claim to the south, then take Connacht and Briefne through fabricated claims to form the second Duchy you need for the kingdom. It's possible to then take the Duchy of Ulster entire if you have good allies - getting William the Bastard on side is an option - but it's easier to snip off Athlone and Ossory. Their duchies are split with the double-count of Leinster and Dublin, which is why you grab the duchy that you can make without warring on a Duke.

Once you've done that, convert to Catholicism through one of your wives. You can now ask the Pope for cash, generally somewhere around 200 gold, which is almost 25% of the money you need to form two duchies and the kingdom. Getting the rest of the land is trivial after that as the count of Dublin and Leinster is also Catholic and will accept vassalisation, and the Duke of Ulster will either do likewise or you will have at least twice his levies in your own domain.

Okay I'd like to ask some Basic rear end Questions to try to get past this hump that I always get to after I finish a Paradox tutorial ("uhh what do I do now?")

My Spymaster is my aunt, who dislikes me. One reason is that she is a Title Claimant. I looked at her claims and she has pressed claims for my County (Thomond), my Duchy (Munster), oh and the entire kingdom of Ireland (Ireland).

Am I to infer from this that she thinks she should be the Petty Queen of Munster and also the Queen of Ireland, but I'm standing in her way?

The stuff that dreams are made of.
I seduced the Duchess of Ulster to get her to support my hunchback daughter for the throne, but she isn't going for it. At least now I've got a great relationship with one of my powerful vassals!

When your spymaster says there are no secrets in a court is that just the fail message or are there really no secrets to be found?

The game has new improvements that weren't in CK2 but the basic gist of the game is the same. I recommend just booting up, learning the new menus, learn the new war, learn the new lifestyle system. After that it's pretty straight forward.

Goddammit.

Become King of Ireland, but before I could get the whole island sneaky Scotland snatches up Dublin and Leinster :argh:

Ah well. Tooltip tells me to try fabb'in a claim on Galloway who is similarly sized independent nation so I do so. While the claim is getting fabricated the King of Scotland suggests we ally and I think that is a fine idea.

Like, seconds before I declare war on galloway Scotland has a revolt, Galloway instantly allies with the revolt, England falls to Denmark, Sweden allies with the small Scottish revolt. I declare war anyways, not realizing that Scotland has a truce with Galloway so I'm on my own against Galloway + Sweden + Scot Revolt. Then Ormond revolts against me to try and become part of my "ally" Scotland, and Ormond is allied with Whales. And to cap it all off Scotland decides is a fine loving time to declare war on Denmark (formerly england) and asks me to join that war, I accept needing every body I can get.

So I take care of Galloway, but soon comes the Sweden + Whales + Denmark + Scot Revolt + Irish Revolt pain train. They just all b-line for my counties while Scotland whines that I'm not helping him. He gets a big boost by England revolting against Denmark but by that time I lost all 3 wars.

Came out surprisingly well, just lost some gold and prestige, and one county to my loving ally

I'm loving coming for you, scotland.

So far:

Had a duke to the north who was disfigured and wore a metal mask that looked so cool I wished I was disfigured.
Became a soulmate with a beautiful Norwegian lass who, while pregnant with my second child, was imprisoned during a coup by a relative and miscarried while in jail. I was so pissed. I'm still kind of pissed.
Now I'm on the rump end of my domain with almost no money, a sad wife, two dead sons and a miscarried child.

Good stories incoming. Having a fantastic experience so far.

Hmm, it looks like the religious gender doctrines have are no longer overridable by other mechanics (i.e. culture/tech) like they were in CK2.

So unless you religious reform to Equality, you will never be able to hand out claims to women, have them lead armies, etc. This applies even to those cultures that come with the "equality" culture tech - that only impacts succession law.

Hold the mouse over the first tooltip until the border changes, then move to the next. You can adjust the delay in the settings.
