I'm describing the one-time offer that gets you to enter your credit card info so you'll make $65 impulse purchases later. :ssh:

My main problem with the Chao system was the amount of time you had to spend idling in the garden waiting for poo poo to happen. I know the idea was that you'd have fun just watching them do stuff but they don't really do a lot on their own, especially early on.

you make your own fun, by making Eggman run around in circles with his weird legs or repeatedly petting a chao to hear YOSSHHHHH

I thought most of the time spent was re-running stages over and over to get stuff to jam in their faces before immediately leaving to repeat the process.

I feel like I might have learned the animal/drive re-use trick at some point, but its such a distant memory. Is it silly that hearing about it again almost makes me want to re-install the PC version of SA2B so I can take advantage of it?

Is it weird if the most fascinating part of that video was the NiGHTS stuff? The fact that you had an entire chao garden equivalent playing out in the background of every stage that you may not have even known about is fascinating.

I'm surprised he didn't cover the Wii NiGHTS game, that one has a way more in depth version that's closer to the Chao gardens in how it's implemented.

I liked Chao but if I were to play SA2 as an adult I wouldn't touch it much. I think itd be a lot better if you like, quadrupled the rate at which stats were raised and also the chao's progress through their lifecycle

there are mods which let you customise your chao and stats so you dont even have to do that

Chao can be whatever it wants to be, it's an optional thing, that's fine, but I always felt putting emblems and thus, the bonus level behind it was an rear end in a top hat move. I kinda feel like getting to unlock SA2's bonus level should be tied to me mastering....y'know. Sonic Adventure 2.

Also the video doesn't show how easy it is to accidentally kick a chao

It’s hilarious how Eggman is hand’s down the best Chao caretaker because his jump doesn’t hurt them and his slap attack can’t really be done accidentally. Also because of YOOOOSH.

I got a 4k tv this summer and I just finished playing & getting the true endings in SA1 (using the dreamcast mod) and SA2...with some notable exceptions I really enjoyed going through them again in 2160p. I think the art really holds up well. I want to move onto Sonic Heroes but the game doesn't seem to want to detect my xbox one elite controller, which has really disrupted my sonic momentum :eng99:

For Heroes, just use Dolphin and a GameCube ISO. The PC version uses an old build, and like a lot of old PC games is anywhere from maddeningly difficult to completely impossible to get running.

yeah, the casino stages in heroes were hype as hell. they really hosed up by not including a casino stage in generations and when i heard about the casino night dlc i was screaming excitedly until i saw it was a fuckin pinball minigame.

like, get bingo highway, hang castle, egg fleet, maybe make rail canyon good. no its beach stage again (though it was done very well in generations)

ok lets do this bullshit again; Generations Stage Choosing discussion

sonic 1 and 2 stages are fine as is.

but sonic 3 and knuckles? ideally id put one from each half (utopically, id put practically half the stage count), but say we stick with the 3 stages per era thing they did.
how the hell do you even choose? theres hydrocity, which could get the requisite water stage out of the way early (and can you imagine the remixes). Ice Cap would add some much needed color palette and setting variety, and once again would have a sick loving song to remix (lets ignore the potentially legal nightmare of mj, scirocco jones, brad buxer, the jetsons). i know its not many people's thing but i fuckin love carnival night's aesthetic and the insane dazzling colors and lights in generations would be precisely my poo poo. mushroom hill in 3d would be rad as hell. There were no real eggman base stages in generations other than a bit of planet wisp? so i wouldnt be opposed to flying battery but imo having Death Egg Zone would be a billion times better.

for sonic adventure i dont think theres that great a selection of stages, and speed highway definitely is one of its best, but personally i would have *loved* to see sky deck, maybe merge it a bit with some flying battery stuff and you get a 2 for one.

sonic adventure 2 *has* to be city escape, there really is no way around it.

heroes? as said before my first pick would be casino park/bingo highway, because generations had 0 casino stages and in a sonic greatest hits thats criminal. in case somehow you got one from 2 or 3k, my gut instinct tells me egg fleet, but if we got sky deck from SA1, my next pick would be hang castle, since theres no creepy haunted stages (no mystic ruins, no sandopolis, no pumpkin hill, etc) to have like a "ghost house" mario stage but sonic.
but really just put in frog/lost jungle to have some loving variety.

finally modern era;
sonic 06 i feel they chose the best and most representative stage of the game, since its supposed to be an apocalyptic story, and its a much more different environment to the other city stages in generations + checks the fire stage box. if heroes didnt put in the jungle stage, put this game's jungle stage maybe idk, i still think crisis city is the right choice either way.

unleashed. Again, there is no argument to be made against spagonia. its flawless in concept and execution. best stage in unleashed *and* generations. its a shame they did one stage per game cause this one has the most beautiful and filled with personality of all the 3d games barring maybe colors. maybe holoska if ice cap from 3 didnt take? chun nan would be fuckin sick if not for

colors: put in aquarium park for god's sake. holy poo poo. i feel this is where they were really hamstrung by making you go chronologically thru the game and deciding they need a big eggman stage to cap the game off but it doesnt work. planet wisp is cool and all but it didnt need to be 10 minutes long and have you run up nondescript red metal support beams for half of it.
If not aquarium park maybe sweet mountain, tropical resort, hell, starlight carnival with full on generations style graphics would own.

so my list would be:

sonic 1: GHZ
sonic 2: CPZ
sonic 3&k: DEZ/ICZ (again choosing this is nearly impossible)
SA1: Sky Deck
SA2: City Escape
Heroes: Casino Park/Bingo Highway
06: Crisis City
Unleashed: Spagonia
Colors: Aquarium Park
