marketers are idiots who often cross the line of good taste in the hope of creating a provocative image, is there much more to say about it than that? also malorie blackman predates the young adult craze and was one of very few popular authors when i was a kid who had anything at all to say about race. noughts and crosses was contemporary with harry potter, which at this point was back-editing black characters in because JK forgot to do any. can't speak for the tv adaptation but she's good and does not deserve people dunking on her.
