i liked ancillary justice. the titular character was well written imo. didnt care for the sequels, tho raven tower was decent, but very light reading. it was neat how practical and transactional the gods/worship functioned also youre a gimmick

I loved all the stuff about the main characters identity. Sequels were very meh.

Different style for sure, but same sort of deep worldbuilding and actually a better idea of how alien civilizations would interact with a human space empire. The other three books in the setting expand it a lot. I'm hella queer and the gender stuff was actually pretty neat and inclusive to me.

I've literally never seen any of the Stars War except the 3+1 (I played the Westend d20 RPG and read maybe the first two Zahn novels as well?)

My favorite innovated was the different tiers of damage (Personal/Speeder/Walker/Fighter/Capital). It was like a more-nuanced version of the Palladium MDC (which was p.poo poo, IMO)?

reading the long sun books rn. it's refreshing reading something that's not really plot driven. here's hoping it holds up through all four books.

Which (if any) of the Annos were worth playing? I'm running out of patience with Stellaris' weirdnesses and the limited ability to mod them away.

I feel like raven tower is just as good as the first book

reading Eon by greg bear & this character Lanier is repeatedly described as not caring about sex but earlier he hired an escort as the first thing after returning from space and now he's super horny again. seems like he cares a lot about sex to me but seriously wtf quote:Sexual passion had seldom dominated Lanier; his drives were normal enough, but he had always been able to ignore them, or control them in inappropriate situations. His two-year celibacy on the Stone had been less a hardship for him than it might have been for others. Nevertheless, he had never been hornier in his life than he was at this peaceful moment.

this there is no author that is capable of writing a non-cringe sex scene and they all should just fade to black

the weird thing is so far there hasn't been any sex scenes (fade to black). it's just this guys weird characterization. tbh I'm not sure if it's the author doing it on purpose, cause those are the only mentions of sex

I enjoyed the ancillary books but the scale of the first one doesn't match up with the next two, it's like "oh poo poo there's a galactic scale civil war, ok I'm going to chill over here in one system and solve a murder mystery, also are smart computers people?"
