I guess it's just my experience here, but every time someone cites the Proud Boys as some fearsome right-wing org, I get a case of the LOLs. They tried to establish a presence in New Orleans which was quite short-lived. I remember rather clearly a photo being passed around Facebook. 6 or 7 guys standing in the middle of the street, faces all obscured, with the title "Boys In The Hood". On goddamn Frenchmen! FRENCHMEN, FOR CHRISSAKES! During normal times, absolutely overrun with tourists & probably one of the safer spots in NO. Then there was a promise of a Proud Boys Pub Crawl via flyers all over the place. Funny thing is, the pub crawl turned into a single pub visit....on the Westbank in Algiers on like a Thursday when the bar didn't have more than 2 or 3 other people in it. The big reveal though, and one certain to solidify their foothold in the city, was to counter-protest the renaming of Jefferson Davis Pkwy and the removal of the statue over there. Again, 10-12 members at maximum waving signs & yelling at traffic while being completely ignored. They lasted for like just over an hour. I don't know too much about Portland or Kenosha or places like that other than what I read. But I know that type of poo poo doesn't play down here, at least in a city with a rather sizable African-American population. The funny thing, they absolutely won't show up anywhere other than very public, visible places out of absolute fear. No Proud Boy is gonna' go off in the Lower 9th or Central City or places like that. They also don't know how to react when PoC just walk by & laugh at them (this happened near daily when OOS counter-protestors showed up daily to whine & cry about the eventual removal of the statue at Lee Circle).

I think the smartest thing I ever heard Chris Cuomo say was to some politician that was whining about illegal immigrants, he said "How come you republicans never go after the business owners for hiring illegal immigrants?". It was pretty goddamn brilliant (in my opinion, I've never really heard that argument before) and of course the politician had no answer. I would give my left foot for Graham to lose this November but I don't have it in me to actually hope for a blue South Carolina.
