You shared it with a dick.

Bittersweet moment, my daughter drove up to see me, only to steal my Halloween decorations for her dorm room. As in, she only wanted the decorations. Ah well, I bribed her into hanging out for a while with Chinese food. First time I've seen her since dropping her off at school, and it was the longest I've ever gone without seeing her.

I've always gone to Halloween parties and never decorated my house. This ghost is the first Halloween decoration I ever bought, at her insistence, when she was 4 years old. She has now taken him away to college. He was my household harbinger of Halloween, he always came out October 1 to bring in the season.

Last year was the first year we were in a house in a neighborhood with lots of kids, so we gave out candy for Halloween. This year, with Covid and all, it's obviously not going to be the same. Anyone has ideas for how to execute this year?

Wear gloves and a mask under a halloween mask, you drop candy directly into the kid's bags/pails.

Dress up like a surgeon, so you're already wearing the gloves and mask. Make a show of sanitizing your hands before dropping the candy in the bags.

Pip-Pip old chap! Last one in is a rotten egg what what.

Had to say goodbye to two great workmates this week, one took early retirement and wants to keep in touch on Facebook, the other took the decision to leave because work is becoming a head gently caress. He's going to drop off the face of the earth and probably end up as a bicycle mechanic in Cornwall because he doesn't do any sort of electronic communication, phone or text included. I'm really going to miss them both and told them so and I had the Cornish one in tears when I said that and told him he's taught me a lot in the last 13 years and to take care of himself.

Then because toxic masculinity is a cool and good thing I've had no less than 5 people take the piss about "acting like a woman". I loving hate people.

How is that even a thing still? Hell, I cry all the time. If you're not crying, you're not paying attention. How much less of a man does that make me? None, it makes me stronger, because I deal with the poo poo, but still recognize it's poo poo.

Not a daughter but the sentiment is the same regardless. If there is any one thing I like about the pandemic it's that I'm getting a lot of family time. My son is 16, a junior in high school. Only about a year and a half left....

Bill Burr explains this perfectly when having to get rid of his dog, most men tend to bottle it up and just add it to the "shelf of anger" :v:

Related to this, I was reading my daily summary from The Times yesterday, which covered the Proud Boys shout out by Trump. I couldn't contain myself, and posted the article link and exactly what I thought about Trump and White Supremacist shitheads. I may have just triggered some friends, but, pursuant to the conversation here the last few days, if I did, they're not really "friends" you want, are they? I really debated posting my thoughts, but in the end, y'all made me realize that it needed to be done. May be able to clear out my friends list a bit. I'll be honest, though, I haven't been back on FB to see the damage. I kicked the anthill and ran away. Maybe I actually made someone think about their choice of President, though I doubt it. I mainly wanted to be clear about where I stand to family and friends.

That proud boys shoutout really hosed with me. I didn't even watch the debate but I got a call from my buddy after it was over and he told me about it. It bothered me so much I had to straight up go to bed after that.

Next day I get the following meme texted to me by one of my sober friends that I used to do dope with back in the day.

He had a harder time getting sober and relapsed countless times before getting it together. Anyways this one cheered me up about it so I figured that I'd share it with you guys.

I’m stunned that it hasn’t attracted more attention, and not sadly surprised at who it did attract. I’ve already got those two guys set so I don’t see their posts on my feed, not that I really even look any more. I wish I could get my mom to see around her single-issue mindset. Abortion isn’t going to matter much when we’re all either destitute or embroiled in WW3.

And when we i learn who is who with regards to FB vs. AI, I have a cheat sheet. I kid you not.

Also, I need a “Shut up, man” tshirt.

When I first got sober I deleted my Facebook because the political posts kept stressing me out and making me want to relapse. I kept blocking people but political stuff kept making its way into my feed no matter what. Honestly I think it was one of my better decisions and I haven't looked back or missed it once since I deleted it several years ago now.

Abortion is never going away. It's too useful of a tool. Those laws in GA in AL were pretty much the last stand of the anti-abortion boomers. I know there are a lot of single issues voters on the right who cast their ballot to end "baby murders" or whatever but at this point they should really just cut the cope and accept that it is here to stay.

If you don't pretend you're going to take away abortion the first chance you get!!! (for 40 years) while never doing anything about it in actuality when you own all 3 branches of the government (which they've had twice now), how are you going to get all the single-issue votards to rally behind your poo poo-rear end political philosophy that is otherwise abhorrent to most rational people?

Although it's kinda darkly hilarious right now because they opted not to do a new platform this year, so the current one is full of potshots at 'The Current Administration'. :v:

They just pay lip-service to those issues to secure the fundie vote.

They really just want lower interest rates, tax cuts, and hand outs to their friends.

I try not to think about it too much. It's not like there's anything I can do about it outside of voting.

If you must do it, find a window or something higher than where the kids are. Get a length of PVC pipe at least 6 feet long, angle down. Slide candy through pipe.

If you only have a short length of pipe you can always create a candy gun, same principle as a potato gun. You might have to use chip bags as a sabot for the smaller candy though.

House near me growing up had a like long exterior entryway that was a bit like a tunnel. He used to coat it in aluminum foil and set up a strobe light. He then replaced his front door with a get up like an old 60s squared robot with like ducting for arms. Anyway he would make you say trick or treat very robotic then distribute the candy through the arms. It honestly owned so hard and was always the highlight of my childhood Halloween’s

I’m a bit late to bike chat but if anyone is in need of a bike in PA, you can definitely have mine. It’s a 2012-ish GT Karakoram 3.0 29”. I don’t use it regularly anymore and it’s always been kept in the garage. Could probably use a going-over, and there’s a spot in the frame paint that got bit by the chain, but it would probably be better for someone else to use it.

When I had my old job and old house I would ride it 20 miles a day before work, but now I’m on call 24/7 and spend most of my life at the hospital so I don’t have the energy or time. My kid only rides it very occasionally but he’s more interested in motorized transport anymore.

Anyway, I wish I’d bought a year truck pass to the off-road park at the beginning of the season. I bought a pass for the bikes but I didn’t have the blazer until later so I didn’t think about it. Would have been only a few bucks more to buy the full upgrade, and paying per session is

At least off-roading is good social distancing. Here’s the boy with nobody within six feet of him.
