I finally managed to get a haircut, 6 months after I really needed one. Got chatting to the stylist about cars somehow and he showed me a picture of his garage. His & His matching pop-up headlight NSX's. He was saying one is tuned to ~450hp the other is 650hp. If thats not AI I don't know what is.

Depends on your state, I've always voted 3rd party for president in CA and it's obviously never mattered in terms of the final outcome. Sucking it up to vote for the worst candidates the Democrats have to offer is how we ended up with 2016 and one of the few people who could have lost to Trump.

It's impossible not to love driving a classic Mini, when he said "how can you not smile?" that's exactly the feeling you get when you're in one and why they're one of the best cars ever built. The thing about them though is the smile is contagious, everyone who sees a Mini smiles. Having taken a road trip in a friend's one there's little else that inspires glances and waves like a Mini except a convoy of Minis... Another friend has a worked 1275 with a straight cut gearbox and it's even more fun. Spinning up the tiny wheels from traffic lights just because you can is never not fun and the nagging feeling you're possibly going to die driving it just adds to it all... There are definitely worse cars to die in though.

I went to a private lake with a buddy of mine yesterday and he did some fishing while I got hammered. I think I shocked my body, because I quit drinking on 4th of July. I spent most of the last couple years drinking alone and I packed on the weight and got super depressed and un-motivated. Stopping drinking has led to improvement in both areas, so now I'm 100% committed to only drinking socially, which I did yesterday. But now it's 2:30AM and even studying the driver's manual isn't making me tired. Speaking of which, when moving to Oregon they make you take the 'written' driver's test again. Should be interesting, although I trained my daughter within the last 2 years so I have an advantage. I did just learn in Oregon it's illegal to exceed the speed limit, ever, including when passing on a 2 lane road. It's legal to temporarily speed when passing in Colorado, and I just did some quick googling and it varies by state. Interesting to note, if asked I would have failed that question.

Driving reg chat: at least in oregon the proper spacing when you're stopped at a light/sign is to be far enough back that you can see the bottom of the rear tires of the person in front of you.

I think my favorite weird question in the mass driving test is "when is it allowed to take a left turn on a red light?" And the follow-on question "what is the exception to this law?" Because we actually have both of these problems in many Mass towns and cities due to... An extreme lack of early road planning.

That's what I was taught in driving school in Texas, some 25 years ago. I (generally) still follow that today. I do miss having a manual though. It was always fun rolling back when the light turned green, when someone was RIGHT ON MY rear end and watching them go OHSHIT. Sorta related, I've had a few cars where I literally could not see the hood at all from the driver's seat; I can see hood for miles with Brokeback. Not 80s GM hood, but I can at least see the drat thing. Makes parking so much easier. slothrop posted:I finally managed to get a haircut, 6 months after I really needed one. I would've gotten that wrong the other way, one of the things my dad hammered home with me was that it's always illegal to speed even if necessary to complete a safe pass on a two lane road. He'd usually remind me of this while doing 30 over during one of these passes.

I finally cut my beard over the weekend. Was about a foot long. Just got tired of it being in the way, and a little worried about it getting snatched in a grinder or something. Hair is still going, though. I look like a 50-year-old Jesus. We had some neat stuff show up at our monthly RX-7 meet on Saturday. For once, mine wasn't the only AE86: GTS! Mine has an interior, though. This one was neat. And '80 with a Holley-carbed 13B, and GALS-SE suspension (and wheels): (The paint is an effect the owner wanted.) This one is an '84-5, but probably not really a GSL-SE, since it has a 12A and the 13" wheels: Huh. I didn't get an engine pic of that one. Basically looks like the '80, but it's a 12A. Both of those cars had RX-8 seats, which are nice. A really well-done FC: Most interesting, though, was this thing: It sounded so wrong pulling up, but so right: If you guessed that the two first gens and the B2000 were Puerto Ricans, you know your RX-7 fans. Guys were cool, and loved talking about the cars even through a mild language barrier. There were more cars there - an extremely clean, very stock FD, a couple more FCs, etc. I was super miserly with my photos. I should have gotten pictures of the the very clean 280ZX and the early 300Z, though. They were neat. The Z31 is in the pic with the AE86, but it's not really visible. It's supposed to be a "rotary" meet, but there's typically so few of us, and so few casual meets for older imports that we're happy to have them.

Washington has it too, when onto a one-way street, but I don't know what the exception would be. There are some epic internet arguments about this, but it's technically safer than right turn on red because there's no chance of interfering with a u-turn either. Luckily in all 50 states you only need 300/20 vision and to correctly answer 55% of the questions correct to get a license and the other 39 questions on the test are ridiculously obvious poo poo. "You're driving down the road when your hood flies up and obstructs your vision, do you:" 1) Slow down and pull over to the side of the road 2) Speed up and swerve while honking to get other drivers attention 3) Bail out of the car
|
# ? Oct 5, 2020 23:55 |

4) Slam the brakes as hard as possible to slam the hood down, then continue on
