Yeah AMD has a premium product now. Also don’t forget you can still pair it with a B550 for an overall lower platform cost Intel is in serious trouble here

Inept posted:lol $300 bucks for 6 cores and $450 for 8 cores Yeah, honestly really disappointed there. The 5800X is gonna be going up against, effectively, the 10700k. I'll wait for benchmarks, but in that the 10700k has 2 more cores and better clocks, I'd be real surprised if the 5800X beats it in much. And the 10700k is $75 cheaper. But yeah, if you're the type to spend >$500 on a CPU, the 5900X seems like a no-brainer.

Did they mention a 5700X? Hoping to get those sweet IPC gains while staying at low TDP. Tuned in late, saw a 5600X, 5800X, 5900X, and 5950X.

Like how could AMD look at the 3080 thing and not say “ok yeah nerds are in a spending frenzy, jack those prices up while we can and clean up”? They have the premium product and in this marketplace nerds will gladly pay

If anything, high initial prices would suggest low inventory that they intend to sell to the True Believers or whatever, and then can price-cut later once inventory ramps up.

Rabid Snake posted:drat I'm not liking the prices I kept sayin', once AMD finally beats skylake the prices will go up to Intel levels. That's 9900K pricing, paid $475 for my 8C just about exactly two years ago. The 8700K could have been cheaper depending on when you got it, OEM ones were $250 at microcenter for a while zen2 is still there for something cheaper and like I said the argument is the same as it was for Intel, if you can get a 3600 for $160 you will have to personally do the math on whether +19% average performance is worth almost twice the money. I am reliably informed that the difference between 150 and 160 fps is not noticeable and it's not necessary to purchase anything faster than Zen2.

AMD has been willing to adjust prices quickly based on competition, so these prices will only stand if Intel keeps making GBS threads out uncompetitive product.

Kinda shrug on the price if it will last another decade, honestly. e: Ehh, ok, so the 2600K cost me $329.99 and mobo $189.99 in January 2011. 10700k is $349 at Microcenter. Launching the 5800X at $449 is pretty dang bold considering they will likely be neck and neck in performance... (this assumes the 3000 parts are gonna go out of production, which I think seems likely?) e: poo poo, the 10850K is $449. Intel is offering more cores for your dollar than AMD

Tops out at 8 cores and will run hot but Willowcove, even on a 14nm backport should be competitive. 5900x and 5950x will remain in the stratosphere but maybe the average Joe parts will drop in March.
