Today I went out to get some new (not Harbor Freight) jackstands since my dad tactically commandeered mine, and the guy kept trying to get me to register for an extended warranty for them. After the third time asking me if I was sure I just went “Dude they’re jackstands, if they break I’ll probably be dead.” He didn’t ask a fourth time Also, we just finished The Boys and gently caress I love that show. The fact that they try the least amount possible to hide that the whole thing is basically just making GBS threads on the alt-right makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

After years of insisting that 3D printers are garbage, I finally got one. I think it's a Monoprice Make Select Plus -- it was $50 from a guy on Craigslist who couldn't figure out how to use it. I think I'm the third owner. Haven't dug into it yet, but I'll clean and lube it tomorrow and see if I can't make it move under its own power. A friend of mine's only comment was "Be careful I hear they catch fire". 3D printers are still garbage, but considering I paid $50 I can walk away from it if it proves being too much of a headache ... and maybe pay real money for a Prusa Mini

If you're not aware, this is the benchmark print many people use for testing that their printer works properly: http://www.3dbenchy.com/ Alternatively (nws? it's dickbutt): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3968892

There are better benchmark/troubleshooting prints than Benchy, particularly because even the cheapest printers should have no issue with its overhangs anymore. It's just a meme these days.

One of coworkers walked out while I was on furlough and I heard he tried to hurt himself earlier this week. We have a few mutual friends which is the only reason I heard about it. He seems like a very nice dude, just a little goofy. Is food the customary show of support? Should I make up some beef and noodles and drop it off?

I apparently have enormous tonsils making for a "very crowded airway" but my doc said the same thing, that it's a bitch as an adult, so I just get to be cpapped forever.

I’m now 24 hours post surgery and feel surprisingly OK. The hydrocodone helps a lot in that regard I think, but I had to wait nearly six hours to get it post surgery cause the liquid form is rare or something. Regardless, while those six hours without pain meds weren’t very pleasant, it was not as painful a condition as when I was first diagnosed with strep this year. Also, due to the fact that I’ve had strep for months my tonsils were huge. I’m in for more pain though I think, my understanding is that it gets worse for a few days, then slowly subsides.

Six hours with no pain control after surgery? Doesn't sound like best practice. I broke my tibia quite badly skiing a couple of years ago and had a load of metalwork and a bone graft put in. When I came round from the operation I was in quite a lot of pain and not really understanding what the doc and nurses were saying. I did make out the word "morphine" which did help quite a bit, but apparently not enough because a few minutes later I heard the word "ketamine" and everything got pretty hosed up.

What partially took so long getting my meds is that the CVS by my house said they ain’t got it but this other CVS cross town does. So my wife goes there and they’re like “we ain’t got that here!”. Now the computers are saying they do, so woopsie, someone lost a controlled substance!

It's been long enough that I don't really remember it except for being in agonizing pain when I woke up, and having a lot of ice cream (this was in the 1980s...).

Came home this morning around 4, milled around for a few minutes, and just before I went to bed I find a bat flying back and forth across my living/dining room. Scared the poo poo out of me. Fortunately I have vaulted ceilings so it wasn't down in my face but I still bolted out of the room. It kind of followed me, then went back in to the other rooms, then swooped at me, then back, etc. Finally I opened the back door and stood there hoping to see it fly out, when I heard my dad opening his bedroom door. I skulked over to tell him we have a loving bat in the house, but suddenly there was no sign of it. I looked around for an hour while he ate breakfast, after which we concluded that it must have flown out, and I just missed it. It was silent and quick as hell. So I slept for 3 hours, got up to pee, and now my adrenaline's back up because I'm still worried that it's here somewhere and is gonna swoop me again. Also worried that there's some secret bat hole that he can get in and out of, with his bat friends or family. We shall see. Or my dad is

If it does bite you kill it and take it with you to the hospital I think they can test it to avoid rabies shots? Or maybe not at least you will have your revenge and be the did e who showed up with a bat in a bag.

There is a revolution just starting to peek it's head up and I'm all about it. Electric vehicles are superior to ICE vehicles. AI or not. Here's a thought: https://www.fastcompany.com/90562654/car-design-is-about-to-change-forever-this-video-encapsulates-how Edit2: Yeah, I've been drinking, but seriously... that is the distillation of a car. You don't need steering linkage, or power steering, or cooling anywhere near an ICE scale, or anything more than rudimentary brakes (assuming that regen braking can be developed properly). That structure is what a car is. A chassis, a means of propulsion, and fuel. Everything else is comfort. I find myself stuck between wanting what exists, and longing for what is coming. I really liked the Camaro SS convertible that I Turo'd in Hawaii. But as I think about actually buying one, I see the long-term prospects troubling. A Model 3 would be as-fast, or faster. Plus it would have more space and be so much more cost-friendly in the long term (providing Tesla gets their poo poo together, but even if they don't, another company will), and is going to be obsolete in our lifetime. I am at a brilliantly socially distanced wedding. Almost everyone was masked up and the tables are far apart, all the booze is single serving, the food is individual meals in cartons. Such good planning and only a few people have left their masks off. I didn't want to attend but it's family so I pocketed extra masks and sanitizer and it's been wonderful.
