Things are ticking along here in B.C., cases going up, officials scolding us, and, just to show how serious things are getting realtors have been asked to stop holding open houses. If the government ever actually shuts down realtors or the money-laundering casinos we'll know the apocalypse has arrived in this province. In the meantime we still have more people dying of fentanyl poisoning than Covid. I had to go into town today to pick up marked gas for the machines. The gas station is on the edge of a neighbouring rural district that has a long history of defending themselves from bureaucratic intrusion and maintaining their freedoms, like the one to drink each other's sewage when improperly installed/ maintained/overloaded septic systems don't work properly. As a result there's a lot of "interesting" people living in the woods. I had my mask on and sanitized my hands before touching the gas pump (still feel a bit O/C about that one). One of the locals approached me while I was filling up jerry cans to ask for a ride. Normally nbd but she wasn't wearing a mask and came way to close to me so she could speak quietly. After a couple of refusals she left and I realized that the minor panic attack I was having centred around the thought of her sharing the air in the cab of my truck, her "faces of meth" skin lesions and rotting teeth weren't really a concern. My brain is borked. Slippery Nipple posted:re: fomite transfer O.K., that makes me feel a little less foolish about sanitizing before and after handling the gas pump and not touching elevator buttons with my hands. If you buy your grain alcohol in 45 gallon drums make sure they're plastic lined. If you take too long to consume the contents water will get in and start rusting the inside. otoh lots of people need more iron in their diets. Mourne posted:ok I’ll stop trying. Apparently the Dutch (not extreme) right wing prime minister has massively gained support in the Corona times even from some people who normally vote left, showing how low the bar is for being seen as a great leader in these times. I'm impressed by the leaders of a few countries but Rutte is not one of them. Not loving up as bad as Trump does not make a success.

us already at 103k cases, 960 deaths in the US. at least 3 hours or so left in the reporting day. it would be interesting to start charting how fast it takes to hit 100k cases in a day, I bet it will give a good indication of the total case count for the day. it will be especially useful when we start banging up against testing limits.. the velocity to 100k would still be visible and a useful indicator of the real case load

Rural Kansas: My MIL in in-home hospice got a visit from the Methodist minister in town (they're not Methodist, "town" is < 500 people). No mask. Talks to her about funeral arrangements. She wants nothing fancy, cremation and a plot in the local cemetery. He's like, the last person who died in town was a grade school teacher who died from COVID. They had a full funeral mass and a small wake at the church, then a burial ceremony... would she like something like that? He was hurt she did not. Somebody posted a cool website the other night that let you see how "dangerous" gatherings were. In their county, you have a 98% chance of being in a room with a COVID haver for any gathering of 30 people or more. The Methodist guy wants to pack his church AND have some sort of maskless potluck in the basement!

Watching Premier Kenney's livestream. "If we don't bend the curve down now, we will have to make even tougher decisions in the future. It's time for us all to step up our game, and our chief medical officer is on the case... Sweeping lockdowns indiscriminately violate people's rights and livelihood. COVID-19 is being spread at parties and other gatherings. gently caress you and die."

Not at all suprising considering BC has never enforced any laws though.
