it's weird trying to monitor someone's online activity, esp when they're old enough to just have full access. He's also very introverted so if we do take away his computer he just totally shuts down and doesn't really talk to anyone, esp now. It's basically become one of the worst argument/grounded situations ever because he's fully unwilling to back down, and I've told him if he's that miserable living with people who don't restrict him at all, then he should try living with his insane bio dad who does nothing to support him and maybe that will be better.

I'm sorry that happened. It is so easy for people get brainwashed with this stuff if you're exposed to it enough. I'll admit that i've had to do reality checks over the last 4 years to make sure i'm not just nuts and it turns out Trump is actually correct about everything. The nation has been subjected to some serious levels of gaslighting that is going to take a long time to correct.

Your killer track.

When I was 14 I wanted Bob Dole to win solely because I liked Norm McDonald's impressions of him on SNL. I had zero idea about politics outside of that. I even went as Bob Dole for Halloween in 96. Today I'd see a high school kid emulating Trump as obnoxious and ignorant and I'm recontextualizing the side-eye I got from most of my teachers that year.

I didn't vote in 2000 but if I did it probably would've been for Bush because I only knew that Al Gore's wife put the warning labels on CDs and that's like censorship, man. 9/11, the war, and a politically vocal girlfriend changed me a lot in the next 4 years.

I do substitute teaching every now for the local high schools and most kids are pretty okay and definitely more accepting of diversity than we were as kids, but they are also very online and extremely susceptible to online propaganda which they absorb like a sponge. I've seen Indian kids who are in an ESL class talk about how much they love Trump because they heard he loves India while completely missing the fact that his supporters would happily toss this kid in a cage, drug him, and torture him to death for fun. The internet is going to seriously mess up the next generation and, politically, one side is a lot better at radicalizing ignorant minds into believing insane poo poo than the other. The future of the Republican party is going to be insufferable choads who think Ben Shapiro and Charlie Kirk are transcendent geniuses. Never give your kid a cell phone or a laptop.

The best way to deal with really anyone who's on the extreme-right is to talk through their beliefs with them. Screaming at them and calling them racists and stuff only solidifies their beliefs. (I'm not saying you'll call your son a racist but you get what I mean). The right wing is a culture of fear. They represent our insecurities and desire for control and order in society.

I've turned, or at least softened, quite a few people over the years simply by discussing topics with them and explaining exactly why I believe what I believe and asking why they believe what they believe. I try to pry when they can't express why they believe a certain thing and slowly work through the brain worms.

Again, never attack. It takes time, be patient and never de-humanize the other person for what they believe.

That is the beginning of a long list. Stop letting your decency get the better of you, you are at war with the devil incarnate right now and there are no rules anymore, and you must win, at the cost of your freedom.

Also important to note that teenage boys are the dumbest loving people on the planet (I should know, I was one). Born in 83, pretty much 90% of what I knew about politics came from comedy shows like SNL, In Living Color, Late Night with Conan o Brien, etc etc.

So, WAS Bob Dole lovely? I mean, he was a Republican, but this was Pre-9/11. So relatively speaking,

For the 2nd half, Boomers calling us trash is a compliment. I really dislike Rick and Morty but Ive seen a screen shot in memes where he says like " I dont give a poo poo about your Boos, I've seen what makes you cheer", and drat if that doesn't hit spot on.

Lol, Every so often I think about looking up my college Philosophy professor and emailing him with an apology. I was never CHUD levels lovely, but I was deep into Ayn Rand at the time. Had the novels, had most of the other non-story books she put out. Found a bunch of 1960s copies at a flea market. Trump's strategy for life has been to tie up people in court for anything and everything. Imagine if instead of ever calling customer support cause your phone died, you just start suing everyone and anyone at Tmobile and eventually you just get a new phone anyway and could care less.

But in this case, they're trying to just get ANYTHING to stick in court so they can have some traction, and they've gotten zero out of it, because this isn't frivolous lawsuit petty claims poo poo, or NDA mediation poo poo, this is making an open claim for voter fraud and showing up with zero evidence type poo poo.
