my mom plays a bunch of puzzle games. anything with a decent story and some problem solving is a stand-in for a crossword now and it's cool because learning how to get more digitally and keep her old favorites working taught her a lot of new computer skills

this is always the most amusing thing about this poo poo. a few years ago my friend hosted a lan party and I got away just fine with using a bootcamped 2015 macbook air lmao. last party he hosted we basically had to force ourselves to play a new game or two in order to justify our recently built/upgraded stupid gaming rigs.

vr is ok as long as it’s not pulling your vision around. the way there is a virtual cage works well. I used the oculus rift or whatever one needs a pc but just references the room for orientation. it was pretty good

google earth was the best thing. I spent so long in there. plus there is this less than obvious setting that changes the scale, because what it’s like by default is as if you’re on a large scale model of the earth that you can zoom in on, but if you flick the settings thing to maintain scale (and god i wish that was just a button not having to go into a menu) it makes you human scale above the earth and I swear it’s the closest thing to feeling like super man, it’s so amazing, flying right up into the sky and then down into the neighbourhood you grew up in is honestly one of the coolest things I’ve ever done

I hired one. I recommend people hire them. it’s a great solution. it cost me like $120 for a week or so in nzd which was excellent value I reckon considering how much fun it was and also no commitment

AC Odyssey is even bigger than Origins, I like it so far but the main character isn't an immediate wrecking machine like my man Bayek from the last game was, you actually have to strategize your combat here.

origins I think was one of my most fave games to play ever. odyssey is a few steps back and forward, but egypt was an amazing setting and bayeks journey foe avenging his child’s death is much more gritty and story worthy compared to just being a mecenary

i’ve just started valhalla. it’s OK. they expanded the multi person fights and i’m not as compelled as I am with the other two. I want to get out of the snow into england. will see how it goes.

i bought valhalla on a wim yesterday

my 2-hour impression is that it is a perfectly serviceable viking themed arpg but continues the trend of moving the asscreed games away from actual assassins

i’m very content with that but really wish the rpg element was pushed hard. like, you can specialise in everything, there are no hard choices.

plus it does my head in how some mother ducker can be fighting with my dudes but when i finally engage their health is 100%?

old people should play satisfactory. it’ll dominate them and they’ll love every second. it’s amazing how it gently eases you into an extremely complex factory. the fact that my 9 year old has just unlocked tier 6 and 7 should tell you how obviously manageable it is given how complex it gets
