Isn’t armor in Star Wars supposed to be some sort of weird flexible plastic-metal anyway (to cover how all the armor in the original movies was very obviously some cheaply produced injection mold plastic)? I imagine titty armor is less of a liability in the pastfantasy spacefuture than in medieval times since its not serving the same use case

I haven’t watched Mandalorian but isn’t their armor a cultural, ceremonial sort of thing? Don’t they wear it literally all of the time? In that case it would make some sense for women and men to have different base shapes for their armor, as long as both are practical, which seems to be the case. There’s this blog I like called Bikini Armor Battle Damage that posts about different women’s armor designs, specific reasons why some are bad, and every so often does cool redraws on bad designs. Be warned though: some of these “armor” designs are REALLY skimpy, so don’t go browsing this at work or your grandma’s house or whatever.

It's actually a good video, honestly, thumbnail aside. Shad has some actual decent arguments on why "boob armor" isn't completely unrealistic and it doesn't go into weird sexist rants or anything.

I always generally thought "Boob Armor" was when they specifically put cleavage on breastplates, which would basically create a nice internal spike so someone can easily crack your sternum if they hit you in the chest- which is just one of the many reasons it is stupid. The Mandalorian stuff doesn't look like that at all? Just like there's room for breasts so the actor can breathe?

yea 'boob armor' means literally armor meant to accent and impractically show off tits often making it way worse than normal armor, not armor that...fits over tits without mashing them down...It's perfectly fine armor that looks like it's meant to fit a body type securely and comfortably like, you know, a warrior culture would have. yea I'm fine with things as long as it's the Monster Hunter/Final Fantasy style, let EVERYONE look like Paladins that part time at the local strip club and don't like to change between jobs, drat it. Men want to look like sluts too  But yea for real of all the problems Mandalorian has behind the scenes (one character's an insane anti-mask/corona truther who just tried to get people to follow her to one of the straight up nazi alternatives to twitter, and the character they teased showing up soon is likely going to be played by Rosario Dawson who's literally a violent transphobe), trying to drag whoever made the armor for mandos having slight room for breasts is waaay bottom of the list.

My only real criticism of Anita is that she sometimes comes off as overly sex negative in her critiques. Mandalorians wear Beskar or Durasteel. Beskar, or Mandalorian Iron, is extremely tough and energy resistant to the point where it can deflect lightsabers, though prolonged contact will melt through. Durasteel is more common and cheaper. Mando's suit in early season 1 was a mix of durasteel with the only full piece of beskar being his helmet.

I never liked boob armor, I think the design is junk in general. There are a million and one ways to bring out characterization in armor instead of boys wear blue sashes and girls wear pink bows. It's doubly bad since the Armorer exists. I'm surprised the big callout was "Oh no, boob armour" and not the fact that the lady mandalorians also had like, weirdly feminized visors as well which I don't think is a thing they've ever really done in star wars before? There've been plenty of women wearing mandalorian armour, and there've been more than one style of visor. But I can't recall off-hand any with that specific style of like, tapering shape that makes it look more like lady eyes. If it was any more cartoonish they would have given them eyelashes.
