Then again, I'm not a materials engineer.

Big problem nowadays is a lack of available old growth, we cut it all down in the 1800s to make wooden ships(among other things) so what we have left is pretty protected. Remember, it takes decades to grow a tree tall enough for a big ship

I think that MBAs are useful, in case you are looking for an answer to the question of "Is lightpole a total fucking idiot".
The old wooden ships needed the right type of tree in the right length for masts and keel. I think the USN or whoever dragged the live oak out of the swamp for one of the first six frigates lost a bunch of men in getting it. My assumption is that new types of processed wood may make it usable again however processing usually eats into how green it is.

Not sure if you can build a ship out of it, but they're building a 25 story (tallest in the world) timber high rise here. It's actually under construction with the foundation being built as we speak:

the huge timbers are apparently highly fire resistant, at some point the outside just chars while the inside stays intact without losing much strength.

Lmao, and this is why it'll go nowhere. That and timber strong enough for ships is actually harder to find now, the Navy maintains its own land for growing timber to maintain the USS Constitution because most modern timbers are actually really weak, most old wood ships were made with old growth forest wood which was more durable, but doesn't really exist in nature anymore (thanks humans!)

These guys are closer to the right idea:

Probably sets up for a lot of infighting with services being pissed to have control of their SOC units not being directly reporting. Theoretically it could develop more autonomy and flexibility for SOCOM to develop and execute plans by not getting hamstrung by some dude with a hard on for nonsense and stars on their shoulders but when the gently caress has the DoD done anything like this correctly?

That something being "comparing the law to Hitler's enabling powers act of 1933", but that's a) as stupid and outrageous as you'd think and b) beside the point.

Wisconsin certified yesterday, so the Trump Campaign had 24 hours to do it. They then only filed for a partial recount (legal in WI), for like $3M instead of the full state's $7M. Deadline is December 1st for it to be done. Info at: https://elections.wi.gov/node/7249

The 2016 full-state recount affected the margin by 131. Both sides gained like +700 from their strongholds, which likely means this recount will increase Biden's totals.

Does partial mean in some places, but not others? Or just a partial recount across the board? Presumably the Trump campaign is only going to go for recounts in their strongholds if they can, and the margin is probably way too wide anyway, but shouldn't the Biden campaign fund the rest of it?

Why would they want to fund it at all? It's probably more likely that a full recount would reverse Wisconsin rather than a partial.

Counties only, but you're thinking too hard about it. Trump is funding a two-county recount of the Milwaukee area because there are black people there. Black people are Democrats and they voter fraud a lot. That's the depth of the thinking involved.

The recount isn't going to make up 20K votes. A recount of trump-heavy counties might add a few hundred to Trump. The current funded recount of Biden-heavy counties might add a few hundred to Biden. Trump isn't looking to change the count, they're looking to overturn it via PR.

Yeah probably. This is why I'm filing under "plausibly more green than steel", not "The Future".

Edit: i think the real advantage is how easily its worked with tbh. Cutting it up with a CNC much easier than cutting steel I imagine.
