Nah, it's a parody/joke. There's a few hand tips in the video, but the credits confirm it, even though Poe's Law is quite real when it comes to stuff like this. Although it's more a parody of terrible videos like the Game Theory ones or the plethora of "What if children's show was really dark and edgy!" than something like Quinton or what gets posted here.

"Well, I sure hope Skin Theory is real, otherwise Spongebob gave that poor fish 3rd-degree burns. How horrifying is that!"
"The man in the horse suit was the guy who voiced Klaus on American Dad, another proof of Skin Theory. The show was really ahead of its time (because American Dad came out 2 years after that episode aired :)).

I liked it overall. It's a long joke based entirely on the meta humor of it existing. I like stuff like Episode One though and used to write snarky articles on fake symbolism to piss off my English teacher so it spoke to my soul. Plus I got it recommended to me through Twitter by a person noting it was a deeply committed joke, so that was my headspace going in. I was actually getting ready to link it and you beat me to it.

It sucks a little since it being that long is part of the joke, but well, it's an hour-long shitpost. Although it's a good excuse to watch a ton of Spongebob clips.

Plus the end kind of drops the conceit to point out that he just really wanted to make a video about how much he liked early Spongebob and was saddened by Hillenburg's Death.

i assumed as much. its just i have seen so many dumb theory videos that you never loving know. the first one is a good tip but the klaus one could be "well the author is an idiot too". it says more about me than him though.

It's ridiculous how these people can pull this off. Dinesh D'Souza does the same thing - whenever you see some serious scholar in his flicks they didn't sit down knowing it was for a Dinesh "documentary". Also happened with the one and only correct Prager U video (the one about why the Civil War was fought).

Calling a paul a hero is a bit debatable. The whole point of the book is how he failed to stop a galaxy wide genocide and cult put into his name, while(in the sequels) effectively killing an entire culture. yeah hes not raping children, but its a good example of hero vs protagonist.

His dad was absolutely painted as a good guy and for like 99% of people. Dune ends after the first book.

The franchise goes kind of batshit after that anyway.

my posts are as bad the Current Releases review of Gone Girl

I can’t remember exactly where it happens in Dune (or maybe in messiah) but there’s this great bit that’s set up early when some of the Atreides are reflecting on Leto’s father, the Old Duke, and nobody outright says it but is pretty heavily implied that he was a real motherfucker, a real blood and thunder piece of poo poo, and then towards the end of the book when Paul is ascendant and really taking power and exacting his revenge, the surviving atreides (I think thufir, specifically) see him and don’t think of leto at all, they’re reminded of the old duke.

Also, I feel like it's not just a Super Bad joke, but everyone was drawing dicks on the whiteboard and on the bathroom stalls all the time in Middle and High School when I was going so I can absolutely see that being wrapping paper the second someone brought up vagina wrapping paper.

Checking one of his older videos:

"When I wrote this, it was more controversial to say "it's okay to be gay" than it is now. In my mind, I was sneaking a message about equality into a song that was sort of disguised as a big gay joke. Nowadays, it has aged pretty poorly and to some people, it just looks like gay-bashing. I promise, it really wasn't intended that way, I literally marched for gay equality in Washington the weekend after I posted it. So anyway, I hope you can see it in the context I meant it, and I hope it doesn't make you feel bad."

That being included, along with a CW for homophobia, in a song about Toad being gay that seemed more like pointing out harmless stereotypes than anything actually harmful (by the standards of the time ofc. Nowadays its definitely more eyebrow raising) points towards him being a classy but misguided guy.

This is a bit different then the threads usual, but I recently discovered an incredibly strange short film about the Japanese Zengakuren (radical leftist students who wore those helmets and snake danced). Baffled and exhausted my own powers of investigation I reached out Cinema Nippon and they helped me out. Unfortunately we ended up with a lot more questions than answers, but confirmed that the video is the work of a Russian esoteric nihilist with a fixation on Hindu spirituality, Japanese street violence, 70s J-pop and Hatsune Miku (no that's not a JK Rowling joke).

I wrote up what we found

P.S. if anyone is or knows someone who is okay with conversational Japanese I'd really love to know what was said in that first scene.

"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

I’ve spent the last few days watching basically every video made by Liam Robertson and I wanted to post in here about it because I think they’re really stellar if you have even a mild interest in game dev stories or games that never got released

https://youtu.be/GF3cqKxfxaw

Basically Liam is part of the Unseen 64 team, who have been around for a long-rear end time on the internet (to put it in perspective, their name was fairly contemporary when then came up with it) and for their entire existence they’ve been writing about unreleased games. They’re notable because they do lots of interviews with devs both past and present, and since no one is really telling stories like these they tend to get some wild scoops and crazy access to prototypes and old design docs, generally just by asking around. They’ve had particularly great access to Rare and Factor 5 over the years, with the former being their original claim to fame as they posted about all sorts of rare Rare stories in the early 2000s, and with the latter, the videos Liam made essentially tell the entire story of Factor 5’s demise through the games they didn’t get to make, complete with comments from heads of the studio.

Their website is filled with 20 years worth of stories, and they’re still going, they have a Patreon that will grant access to a very well done book full of stories and pictures of prototypes and concept art, plus they still post fairly often about new finds, but man their back catalog is cool. Stories about Earthbound 64, early betas of RE2 and RE4, Eternal Darkness, Too Human, all sorts of stuff. It’s some of my favorite games journalism because so much of what exists now looks at what’s next or what was successful, but no one is really delving into all of the work that devs do that never gets seen, and there are so many stories out there that are only not being told because there’s not an outlet.

The best part about Quantum of Solace is Spectre's third act where Bond has to trudge through Blofeld's Tunnel Of Antagonists I Was Secretly Responsible For This Whole Time, and it very pointedly leaves out QoS's main antagonist. It's such a brilliant and petty shade throw.

As a QoS simp, I was so pissed at that. Dominic Greene is such a creepy slimy scumbag (in a good way). He has so many great lines too. One of the most underrated Bond baddies of all time imo

I still love Spectre tho. It's been a while since I last saw it but I mainly remember the train fight which was awesome, the car chase which was awesome, and the fact that it was first Bond movie in 10 years that had gadgets and was actually trying to be a fun Bond movie. Spectre owns imo :colbert: even with the silly unnecessary Austin Powers twist.
