Similar. You literally couldn’t escape the Black Album in the early 90’s, but I haven’t listened to it in 25 years, or anything they did after it. Still listen to MoP and AJFA occasionally though.

I'm not a metalhead but I always preferred the early eighties stuff, before it split into a billion different subgenres, most of them involving vikings who slay trolls or vice versa

Metallica didn't do that but they've always just sounded really boring and by-the-numbers to me

Same, I randomly locked that in early enough that I'm too embedded to ever really leave as long as they're around.

For vaguely relevant content (e: wait this isn't the dumb marketing moves thread :catstare:), a move they made that turned out to be dumb in a lot of ways was when they released "inactive" addresses across the board some years back. I was excited to snag my first initial, last name address and tie it into my regular account. Turns out there's a mind-boggling number of people who share those details (even with a less common last name) and are so blissfully unaware of basic technology that they sign all their other accounts up to that email address - all sorts of mailing lists, PTA accounts, sensitive banking info, I still get new ones showing up at least once a month after over half a decade. And you realize extremely quickly that most sites aren't really set up to handle that kind of service request if you're not sketchy enough to try to log in and delete your own account. I've basically given up trying to get anyone to deal with the problem unless it's obviously an actual person doing a mailing list, then I'll do a courtesy reply.

first.last@provider.com addresses are hilarious. It's crazy how many people dont appear to know their own email.

These days I mostly get some kid's signups for various online games, window cleaning invoices, & another kid's group projects for high school, but there was a period where I'd get a lot of mail intended for a fairly famous music producer. Mostly it was just various youtube/myspace artists who'd want me to take a look & I would make really bad remixes of their songs, but one time Lindsay Lohan's personal assistant emailed me:

We haven't received any of them.

Lindsay's schedule is packed, otherwise, I would've asked her about them.

Carthag Tuek posted:

Well some of them were sketches really. I can elaborate when I'm back at the studio.

Anyway, not to be rude or anything, but are you really who you say you are? I wouldn't like to send the mp3s to the wrong people.

Yes, I am 100% authentic.

Lindsay's deal with Universal Motown fell through, although I wouldn't blame them, she's been tough to work with lately, but she is getting back on track, contrary to TMZ's bullshit.

She's about to shoot a movie, and after that, music will be her number one priority. We need recent songs to shop to the other labels, so everything's ready when she finishes shooting the movie.

So far, we've got a handful of songs to shop, but we need more.

When will you be back in the studio?

This is pure gold btw

A friend of mine who has a pretty common first and last name got firstname.lastname@gmail.com. He doesn't use it because it is unusable with the number of people that have decided that his email address is also their email address. Although one time in around 2011, before everyone jumped on the train, he got an email asking if he was Firstname Lastname with Talent Agency. He said no straight away. The person emailing him then said "oh gotcha, well can you please forward me the login details so Firstname Lastname with Talent Agency can use this address?". He said "no, why would I do that?". The reply was basically "umm, why wouldn't you?".

Not sure what's worse, the idiots or the entitlement.

I don't have that common of a name but I do have one random little league basketball coach with my name that occasionally signs up for stuff with my Gmail.

On the other hand I've had trouble signing up for accounts on websites on multiple occasions because there are apparently multiple people named Rod Beard out there.

She also gets all sorts of family pictures and medical records and a ton of other things. We call the messages 'spam not spam' and she mostly deletes them unless it's like a medical record, then she'll reply and say they have the wrong email.

The main time I've really felt bad about it was when an obviously younger person accidentally used my address to order a couple concert tickets. They emailed me later after realizing it but I must've just deleted them as spam. I said they could try to resend them or have the vendor email me about it, but I never heard back, hopefully they managed to get them in time somehow.

This also happened to my wife, but it was some Swedish lady's boyfriend who put her email address in wrong (she was firstname6 or something) and then he emailed and asked for the tickets, and they had a brief exchange. It was funny.

On the plus side, someone with a name not even similar to mine but still trying to use my e-mail address has been paying for Hulu for several years. I guess they just... signed up and then forgot they'd done it?
