My favorite brand of evening news perseverance porn lately is broadcasters waxing poetically about private charities providing what the government used to do.

America Strong, presenting the charity that connects farmers to needy people. Cool, the Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program used to do that, remember government cheese and USDA commodity canned pork? This also functioned to set a floor for farm prices.

Local news today was running a bit about how the Pirates were running a food distribution program for Thanksgiving. A fuckin' baseball team, providing a food safety net.

sure, but i don't think anyone in yospos is unaware of how much damage he has caused, or is underestimating his capacity to do evil.

he also has the personal self-control of a two-year-old, though, which is why it entertains me to imagine that he does other things commonly ascribed to toddlers like accidentally making GBS threads in his pants.

quote:

EDMONTON – Edmonton Police Service have issued an amber alert for Alberta Premier Jason Kenney who is nowhere to be found and may be in danger.

The 52-year-old, who has the accountability of a five-year-old, is believed to have been kidnapped or is ducking for political cover during a bad news cycle as Alberta has reported more COVID-19 cases than a province three times its size.

“He was last seen running away in a blue truck with the bumper stickers ‘Personal Responsibility’ and ‘Jesus is my Pandemic Response,’” said Sgt. R.B. Whitmore of the Edmonton Police Service.

Police have been scouring Kenney’s favourite pipelines with tracker dogs and baiting him with samples of hydrocarbons, but have not yet located the elected official.

Authorities remain confident that he will be located the moment he gets the chance to blame the federal government for something.

I listen to a podcast where the hosts are from Kentucky. They were talking about how churches have taken over all the services the state has completely neglected including schooling. The other infrastructure is so bad that the superintendent of their district told kids to just go to a starbucks/mcdonalds/etc if they need internet which has just led to throngs of kids going to school in the parking lots of these stores.

We live in an absolute dogshit country.

Churches and private charities can discriminate, of course, which is half the entire point.

The endgame here is to return the status quo to the pre-New Deal era, when the federal government had little to do with your day-to-day life and the states were essentially fiefdoms that were operated by the rich and powerful as they saw fit. and we're getting there fast.
