Have your doc put you in for a consult with a pain specialist- there’s things and ways other than just opioids to deal with all the different types of pain and those are the docs that know these things.

Never ask for narcotics. Even if it’s indicated and your hurting just ask for help with the pain, medication or therapy for the pain, but never just straight ask for the narcotics. You might get prescribed narcotics if you take this approach and the doc thinks it’s appropriate. If you ask for narcotics you won’t get narcotics.

Directly message me on Discord, I’m in there as Shimazu (original, I know). I’ve been down this road and after a lot of work and therapy with a pain specialist all I need for pain is aspirin and gabapentin. My primary care docs heart was in the right place but to her it went: Broken vet in serious pain, load up the opioids he shouldn’t feel pain. And I thought that was working until I realized I was dependent on the drugs now, and they were just masking pain. Pain doc squared it all away over about a year. But I had very quick results after an unpleasant opioid detox.

I don't take opiods. Even when I did, they never stopped the pain, just made the edges a little dull- even the fentanyl I had for a time. Now I just smoke weed. I saw pain specialists at the VA, but they didn't seem to have much to help.

I was just hoping to have some more to read about it.

It's probably going to persist no matter what you do or are prescribed. Weed is a distraction the vast majority of the time. Yeah, there are legitimate anti-inflammatory properties to it, but the science isn't solid yet.

Most of the time I take 1-2 800mg motrins a day. Having constant back problems, nsaids are actually somewhat effective. Tramadol was the last "pain killer" I took and it had meh results.

Also the VA is generally going to ask or find out from a urinalysis if you smoke weed, so they're going to hesitate to hand you opiates anyhow. They don't quite understand that opiates are a thing a lot of weed smokers actively avoid. 14 years of telling them no opiates outside of an emergency or surgery, only walked out of the ER with percocets maybe twice in that time. Didn't even get them when they yanked teeth.

Bulletsponge, I've found some pain relief in cannabis and talking with a therapist who taught me how to relax my body so I could help tell my mind to stop feeling the pain so much, but that takes some concentration and practice and is only so effective

e: I'm dealing with chronic pain from arthritis in my shoulder and knees, and pain in my shoulder that has been pretty constant in my shoulder after two surgeries. Stretching and doing yoga helps a bit, too, but that isn't going to be very helpful if you're in so much pain you can't do anything

Hey, as everyone else has said there are a lot of options. I go to a acupuncturist regularly through community care from the VA. It's not curative and there's a lot of pseudoscience but it feels good and relieves my pain for a bit. The VA will also prescribe massage therapy. I also have a TENs and Alpha Stim, both variants of electrical stimulation. Stretches through yoga, Tai Chi, or whatever you decide help a lot too. The VA here has classes for both but I do it on my own or through the local parks and rec. The VA also sent me to aquatic therapy through community care which was great.
I also cosume a lot of cannabis, which has mixed results for my chronic pain.

I have been through the pain management at the va. I was on Dilaudid for a lot of years, now I just take 1200mg of gabapentin three times a day two different muscle relaxers and a few other things three to five times a day. at least I'm aware and cognizant of the world and my existence away from the opioids. But it just hurts all the time.

It's 100% going to be intentional. The intended effect is to hammer home that teenagers who like things sign up for the horror show. The main difference will be that some movie will illustrate the time divide by highlighting the music that the invasion forces liked versus the OND and etc. kids liked.

If its specific areas like knees or back or joints, pain management shots can be very helpful. It's basically numbing agent and steroids, and if those work, they can burn the nerve that's causing you pain. That nerve grows back in 6 months to 2 years, but while it's gone, you're pain free (or at least significantly better) in those areas.

To be fair he's right, the USA electing a tinpot fascist to the highest office in the land has energized fascist movements in a lot of countries, because like it or not, when America does something, everyone takes notice. That is the legacy of America (beyond the legacy of American imperialism) for the foreseeable future. If it's possible to put the fascism genie back in the bottle it is going to take decades, and America has likely forever ceded the top spot it created for itself in the world order. It's going to take a long time for the fallout from this to become wholly apparent, but yeah, there's no going back to pre-trump times. Even if America never again elects a fascist, his little four year stint has created decades of future problems for the entire world, if not derailed the slim loving chance that humans could prevent their own extinction via international cooperation. Of all the times to embrace isolationist xenophobic tendencies (without actually embracing isolationism because lol the US still has bases in 70 countries), this was probably the worst.
